Iconic Filipino Movie Hugot Lines
Winter is coming– err, we mean Valentine’s Day. Love is in the air again come February 14, but for those single and broken out there, don’t worry– it’s only 24 hours after all– parang kagat lang ng langgam yan. Kidding aside, if you want to spend your V-Day alone and with a heartwarming romantic movie, that’s fine. It’s even better to stay in bed and avoid the traffic and crowded restaurants, am I right?
So if you plan to wear your comfy pajamas, snack all night, and watch tearjerker movies, we have you. Here are some hugot lines from our favorite Pinoy movies that you might want to watch (or rewatch!)
“Kasi ang totoo, umaasa pa rin akong sabihin mo sana ako pa rin. Ako na lang. Ako na lang ulit.” – Bea Alonzo aka Basha, One More Chance (2007)
Ah, yes, the iconic Bea Alonzo hugot line. We dare say that all the exes felt THAT the moment she said that. This is for all the people who still have lingering feelings for their exes. If you haven’t watched this quintessential love story yet, our question is… WHY?
“Oh yes kaibigan mo ako, kaibigan mo lang ako… And I’m so stupid to make the biggest mistake of falling in love with my best friend!” – Jolina Magdangal, Labs Kita… Okey Ka Lang? (1998)
This one’s for all the mag-best friends. Need we say more? Though released in 1998, the story of childhood besties Bujoy and Ned is definitely worth a watch, especially if you can relate to the friends-to-lovers trope.
“Anong karapatan mong hingin ang isang bagay na ipinagdamot mong ibigay? I deserved an explanation. I deserved an acceptable reason!” – Piolo Pascual, Starting Over Again (2014)
First of all, why would anyone hurt THE Piolo Pascual?? If you haven’t watched the movie yet, the reason behind this painful line was that his ex-girlfriend Ginny suddenly left and broke up with her then-boyfriend Marco without any explanation at all. They met again years after their breakup.
“Maghihintay ako para sayo. Baka dumating ‘yung isang araw, pag gising mo, baka sakaling muli pang tumibok ‘yan para sakin.” – Diether Ocampo, Dahil Mahal Na Mahal Kita (1998)
More than a hugot, this movie line might actually motivate those who are waiting for a special someone to perhaps, change their minds. Maybe one day… *sobs*
“Hindi na kita mahal. Makakaalis ka na. Seven words. Yung eight years namin, kinaya niyang tapusin in 7 words.” – Angelica Panganiban, That Thing Called Tadhana (2014)
Where do broken hearts go? Apparently, in Baguio and Sagada, where this romcom movie was filmed. Trigger warning for those who just recently ended a long-term relationship though, this movie will hit you right in the feels.
“Tinaas mo ‘ko eh. Ang taas. Ang hirap maiwan sa ere. ‘Wag ka na magpaasa na kaya mo ‘kong mahalin kung hindi mo rin ako kayang panindigan.” – Kathryn Bernardo, Crazy Beautiful You (2015)
Raise your hand kung isa ka sa mga pinaasa at ‘di pinanindigan. Wipe your tears away because, for all we know, there’s someone better coming along. For now, we wait.

Another iconic line from Queen Kathryn! Here’s to those who still can’t move on with their exes. One of the best KathNiel movies to date.

We believe that this legendary Sarah-Piolo movie was specifically made for those who had bad breakups. Watch this with caution though, as it may trigger some hurtful relationship memories!
“Alam mo ba kung bakit sigurado akong mahal kita? Dahil… araw-araw kitang pinipili.” – Gina Pareño, Hintayan ng Langit (2018)
Ready your tissues when you watch this film because it’s a heart wrenching movie worth watching. It’s a story of eternal love that transcends beyond death. It stars critically acclaimed actors Eddie Garcia and Gina Pareño, no less than.

If Basha has her iconic “sana ako na lang, ako na lang ulit,” line, Popoy has one too. If you recently went through a painful breakup, we hope this line comforts you one way or another.

It’s a one-liner, but it’s one that a thousand people can relate to. Watch this underrated Maja Salvador-Paolo Avelino movie that’ll make you reminisce about unrequited love during your college days.
