Don’t Panic, It’s Organic!

I love eating healthy food now as much as I loved eating sweets during my younger years.

So when I went to Mara’s Organic Market on a Sunday in Legazpi Village, Makati, my younger spirit reappeared and got so excited at the sumptuous display of healthy organic desserts.

With labels, as gluten-free, non-GMO, organic, all-natural and vegan, which seek to be defined by the average person, as well as to be ideally consumed for its nutritional value, these healthy desserts promise a wealth of benefits to the body.

Gluten-free, meaning devoid of grains like wheat, rye and barley, which are traced to several health diseases; non-GMO, refrained from the usage of ingredients made with seeds that are Genetically Modified Organisms; organic, product or ingredients that were sourced originally and not tinged with chemical products like fertilizers and pesticides; All-Natural, food that has been used with natural ingredients that came from living plant and animals; and Vegan, plant-based ingredients that exclude dairy and caffeine products.

These desserts come in various forms and sizes, and were all lovingly made to provide sweet happiness and good nutrition to the body.

Lucia’s Sweets, for instance come in coconut-based custards that are filled with a thick concoction of coconut sugar, grated coconut and natural flavors, such as mango, calamansi and chocolate. If you have kids and want to shift them to healthier sweets, then have them try these desserts.

Tio Luca’s Artisan Greek Yogurts do not fall under the Vegan category, but they are surely deliciously healthy. They contain only organic milk that came from grass-fed and free-grazing cow, plus probiotics that contain good bacteria for the gut. While its sweet versions, with Raw Honey or with Organic Blueberry Jam, are so good, they do not contain sugar, preservatives and unnatural additives, which is why those who are lactose intolerant can enjoy its rich creaminess to the full.

How about Take Root’s dehydrated goodies? They simply have guilt-free, paleo, vegan, dairy-free treats that you can snack on anytime and anywhere you may be, like on a bus trip somewhere.  They have Brownie Monkey Bars made with coconut, bananas and cacao, breakfast favors like Banana Bread Granola that’s baked in flaxseed, raw, wild honey and virgin coconut oil, and Chocolate or Peanut Butter Bliss Balls mixed with dates and coconut flour.

Leaf Kitchen’s sweet vegan creations, on the other hand, exude a distinct flavor coming from raw natural ingredients and meticulous preparations that could well be described as “exquisite desserts for the heart”. Thus, desserts as Spirulina Pandan Pancake with Holy Basil Chia Cream, Carob Banana Crepe with Lemon Custard and Strawberry Cream, Dark Chocolate Popsicles, Raw Apple Pie and Tiramisu are sure to make every healthy diner go crazy with delight.
