Asus ZenFone Zoom Unboxing
Asus ZenFone Zoom, Asus’ most recent flagship smartphone, has already landed in the Philippines, bringing with it an amped up design and beefed-up features and specs, which include its 13-megapixel snapper with rare 3x optical zoom lens.
We’re lucky to get hold of one ZenFone Zoom unit a few days ago.
This newest Asus’ device comes with a more premium and elegant packaging – way more improved as opposed to the old white carton-looking box.
Inside, I was greeted with, of course, the gorgeously looking ZenFone Zoom. The package likewise contains the 2A fast charging wall charger, micro USB cables, manual, Asus ZenEar with eartips along with a hand strap that can be attached to the device.
Aimed at photography enthusiasts and travellers, the phone is touted as Asus’ first-ever camera-centric handset. This smartphone has an over-sized camera from Panasonic and Hoya which will make you enjoy taking photos more with its ideal size, weight and quality output.
Users may find this handset interesting as it is crammed with a 13-megapixel main shooter with a 3x optical zoom (pretty exciting!). The optical zoom featured in the device is particularly beneficial when users wish to capture images of distant objects with immense clarity.
Equipped with laser auto-focus system plus built-in optical image stabilization, this functionality enables owners to take crystal clear photos more easily when compared with regular camera smartphones. To top it all off, the phone sports a dual-LED Real Tone flash and 0.03 second auto-focus capabilities.
This phone is also fitted with a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper, perfect for selfie and video chatting.

Other Nifty Features And Specs
Asus ZenFone Zoom ZX551ML is packed with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD / Full HD display @ 1920×1080 pixels, 401ppi screen. It also rocks a Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
Sporting a 403 ppi density, the phone houses a humongous 3,000 mAh battery, offering support for BoostMaster. For the uninitiated, BoostMaster charging allows for a 60 percent charging in only 39 minutes – ideal for those who are always on the go.
What makes it even more appealing, especially to those who necessitate more storage for their travel photos or videos, is its 64 GB built-in storage that can be expanded to 128 GB. It is also fitted with 4 GB of RAM.
When it comes to connectivity, it works with 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band), Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and GPS.
The phone runs Android 5.0 Lollipop (yes, not Android 6.0 Marshmallow yet).
Additionally, Asus Zenfone Zoom also has a physical camera button or shutter key on the phone’s side for taking photos and a small red colored record key for recoding videos.
When the phone was initially launched, particularly in the United States market, Asus touted the device as an iPhone killer.
With regard to the phone’s image quality, the ZenFone Zoom does not only take on single-lens reflex cameras, but it is also believed to outperform Apple’s latest flagship phone, the iPhone 6s Plus.
In terms of its design, it appears that this phone is a looker and it seems more durable than the other ZenFone variants. The phone is built with a smooth metal frame and includes a textured leather cover on the back.
Its overall look, as compared with ZenFone 2 variants, is definitely a step up. In fact, the not-so-refined edges present in the earlier ZenFone models are already gone.
What happens to be lacking, though, is a fingerprint sensor that is already becoming a trend at this day and age.
In terms of its price, the phone carries a price tag of P26,995.
At any rate, Asus is unquestionably taking its game up a notch with the Asus ZenFone Zoom.
With its eye-catching design plus noteworthy features and specs under its hood, there is no doubt this handset is a strong rival for today’s premium phones, in the likes of Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5 and iPhone 6s.
So, will it give you a run for your money? I’d say, YES.
