AirAsia Inaugurated Its First Flight From Manila To Iloilo
AirAsia now flies to the main getaway to Panay region and the Western Visayas; the Iloilo International Airport. Voted as the World’s Best Low-Cost Carrier for 9 years, the airline flew its first flight to Iloilo from Manila today as the Dinagyang-themed celebrations held at both Iloilo and Manila airports served as a welcome to passengers and guests. The Dinagyang festival is the most celebrated cultural and religious festival in Iloilo and this is held every January.
Flight Z2 309 with Captain Dexter Comendador-CEO of AirAsia Philippines as the pilot in command left Manila at 2:15PM with a load of 98%. The iconic AirAsia red plane was welcomed with the customary water cannon salute upon its landing at the Iloilo airport.

The government officials as led by Senator Franklin Drilon who himself hails from Iloilo City, Iloilo Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III, Provincial Governor Arthur Defensor, Cabanatuan Mayor Ronilo Caspe, Pavia Mayor Michael Gorriceta, Sta. Barbara Mayor Dennis Superficial, Attorney Helen Catalbas-DOT VI Regional Director and Mercine Reyes, the manager of the Iloilo Airport Terminal graced the welcoming festivities. Maan Hontiveros, Chairperson of AirAsia Philippines, Captain Dexter Comendador, CEO of AirAsia Philippines and Vice Chair of Philippine Business Bank Jeffrey Yao who represented his father, Alfred Yao who is also one of the investors of AirAsia Philippines were also present at the event.
Captain Comendador further added that they are very grateful for the government’s support and also of the chief executives of the local governments nearby. They are also grateful for the support of their travel and hotel agency partners in crafting the policies that justly promote and support tourism.
He added further, “Let us continue to work together to provide level-playing field, encourage fair competition that affords every traveler more and better choices, and enable the expansion of airline services to more communities,”
