Eight Reasons Why I Love Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort
I recently visited Cebu and stayed at Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort in Mactan (resort info). It was my fourth time staying at the resort, and I can say that each visit is great; almost as better as the previous one, even!

This wonderful beach resort a pristine white sand beach, is one of the 10 recipients of the ASEAN Green Hotel Award, rewarded by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2016. The hotel’s luxurious, close-to-nature feel and airy ambiance, coupled with the beautiful view of the beach, top-notch woodwork, architecture, and Filipino hospitality, make Bluewater Maribago well-deserving of its recognition. I love this resort four times and over, and to put my glee into words, here are 8 reasons why I love it:

1. It has fantastic rooms with a beach view
Although I like feeling the sand on my feet and the sun on my face, I don’t really have a beach body, and sometimes I’m more comfortable staring at the seaside from afar. What’s great about Bluewater Maribago is that it has rooms that are not only fantastic in terms of amenities but also in terms of view.
My room is on the beach wing side of the resort hotel, which gives my veranda an excellent view of the beach. I liked staying on the veranda while feeling like a king in my traditionally-designed room.

2. My room exudes Filipino architecture at its finest
I can’t even begin to describe how aesthetic my room was! It had a very clean and minimalist style and a classy feel. The cantilevered beds were designed by renowned furniture sculptor Benji Reyes, known for his woodwork expertise. My entire room was an artwork.

3. The restaurants had great food
As a beach resort near the open sea, it was very appropriate how the restaurants served very fresh seafood dishes! The buffet-style Allegro Restaurant served fantastic Asian cuisine; the live seafood restaurant The Cove had an excellent selection of fish (this is my favorite restaurant, more on below); and the Oyster Bar had a great ambiance. Also in the beach resort was the Molto Italiano café, which served traditionally brick oven-cooked dishes.

4. The cultural dance show at the Jungle Restaurant & Entertainment was amazing
Tinikling, Fan Dance, and the Sinulog were some of the cultural dances that entertained us at the Jungle Restaurant & Entertainment. Our night was also brightened up by the group of dancers who showcased various interpretations of the cultural dances of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. We went to this restaurant for the food and dance and were not at all disappointed.

5. The resort’s Marine Wildlife Lagoons let us feed sharks
One of the most memorable activities in my recent stay at Bluewater Maribago was the shark feeding! Seeing the sharks swimming peacefully in the crystal clear waters of the saltwater lagoon was an enthralling experience. Feeding them smaller fish, which were handed to us in a basket, was even more exciting.

6. I felt rejuvenated after a relaxing treatment at Amuma Spa
Like a king, I was pampered in the Amuma Spa. The spa’s signature massage technique, or hilot, as they call it, was like a combination of all the good things in the world and passed on to my back muscles.

7. The seafood delights at The Cove were mouthwatering
Aside from the amazing view of the sea and the nearby private island owned by the resort, Cove has the best seafood dishes among all the restaurants in the resort. The ingredients used for each dish are guaranteed fresh, as they are displayed in seawater aquariums in one part of the restaurant. What is better than enjoying a freshly cooked seafood dish by the sea?

8. The Filipino staff has unparalleled hospitality
Being hospitable is one trait that we Filipinos are known for. I would like to commend the hotel management for ensuring that each aspect of the hotel—the architecture, the food, the surroundings, the furniture, the spa, and down to every member of the staff, proudly breathes this Filipino tradition of ours. Their friendliness and attentiveness to my needs during my stay improved my fourth hotel experience.
