(Manila, Philippines) – Several LGU’s and Schools in the Philippines have suspended classes on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, due to inclement weather condition brought about by Tropical Depression Amang, the first storm to hit the Philippines this year.

Typhoon Update by PAGASA Issued at 08:00 PM, 21, January 2019
TROPICAL DEPRESSION “AMANG” HAS WEAKENED INTO A LOW PRESSURE AREA (LPA).
- Tropical Depression “ AMANG ” has weakened into a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) at 5:00 PM today.
- All Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals have been lifted. Light to moderate rains are expected over Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, and Northern Samar within the next 24 hours due to this weather disturbance, along with the tail-end of a cold front. However, these areas may still experience periods of heavy rainfall. Residents of these areas, especially those living in areas at high risk of flooding and landslides, are still advised to take appropriate actions, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the Weather Advisories and the Heavy Rainfall Warnings / Thunderstorm Advisories from PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.
- Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are still advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas due to the surge of Northeast Monsoon.
#WalangPasok: Enero 22, Martes
Department of Education (DepEd) Class Suspension Guideline:
- DepEd Calls on parents to determine whether their children should go to school during typhoons, floods and other calamities in the absence of official announcements from DepEd.
- In the absence of storm signal warnings, LGU are expected to announce whole day class cancellations not later than 4:30AM or half day class suspensions not later than 11:00AM.
- Storm signal warning declared by PAGASA between 10:00pm and 4:30AM reflect the whole day cancellation of classes in appropriate levels in the affected areas.
- Storm signal warnings declared by PAGASA by 11:00AM automatically suspend the same day’s afternoon classes in appropriate levels in the affected areas.
*Suspension of classes for the tertiary level (colleges and universities) will be at the discretion of school management.
