After the declaration of the Puerto Princesa Underground River as one of the Official NEW 7 WONDERS OF NATURE in 2012, its time for us to go online again and vote for Vigan City to become one of the New7Wonders Cities of the world.

I recently had a road trip to Vigan and Laoag and noticed a lot of establishments promoting for the City’s bid. Recently, Vigan was included in the 28 cities vying for a slot in the New7Wonders Cities. Being the only nominee from the Philippines, we should support Vigan on its Quest for New7Wonders Cities.

The city government of Vigan headed by Mayor Eva Medina is asking fellow Filipinos to help in encouraging everyone to vote for the City in the New7Wonders Cities Poll. “This is not only a battle for Vigan, but for the entire country,” said Mayor Eva Medina

Vigan is the only UNESCO world heritage city in the Philippines and it is famous for its cobblestone streets and a unique architecture that fuses Philippine and Oriental building designs and construction, with colonial European architecture.

By voting for Vigan City, we are not only helping the City become a well known destination, this can also encourage other Cities in the country to preserve cultural and heritage sites just like how the City Government of Vigan did.

With over 1,200 nominees from 200 countries, Vigan City was selected and included in the Top 28 list which was announced in October 2013. Aside from Vigan, there are 27 other countries included in the Poll and they are Athens in Greece, Bangkok in Thailand, Barcelona in Spain, Beirut in Lebanon, Casablanca in Morocco, Chicago in the US, Doha in Qatar, Durban in South Africa, Havana in Cuba, Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam, Istanbul in Turkey, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Kyoto in Japan, La Paz in Bolivia, London in the UK, Mendoza in Argentina, Mexico City in Mexico, Mumbai in India, Perth in Australia, Phnom Penh in Cambodia, Prague in Czech Republic, Quito in Ecuador, Reykjavik in Iceland, St. Petersburg in Russia, Seoul in South Korea, Shenzhen in China and Vancouver in Canada.

From 28 cities, the list will be trimmed down to 21 on July 7 and this will be followed by three more voting and elimination stages until they reveal the New7Wonders Cities on December 7, 2014.
