Drum roll, please! The Innovation in Travel Award winner is no other than Etihad Airways!

The prestigious ‘Innovation in Travel Award’ was presented to Etihad Airways at the Travel Weekly Globe Travel Awards which recently took place at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London’s Park Lane in the United Kingdom.

The highly coveted award is given to a company which came up with an innovation or development that has created an impact in the market. Judged by a panel of industry experts, the ‘Innovation in Travel Award’ was awarded to Etihad Airways for its private three-room cabin, The Residence, which is said to be one of its kind (designed inside a commercial aircraft) in the whole world. This innovative cabin is the product of a 7-year research and development (R&D) led by the Etihad Design Consortium at Etihad’s Innovation Center in Abu Dhabi.

The said cabin takes up 125 square feet of space within the Airbus A380s it possesses. Some of The Residence’s features include a living room, a double bedroom,  a separate en-suite shower room, and an assigned Savoy-trained Butler.

Travelers on Etihad Airways’ A380 flights to New York, Sydney, and London will have an opportunity to see and experience The Residence. A380s will also be introduced for Melbourne and Mumbai flight routes this year.

Guests staying in The Residence will have the time of their lives while up in the air with Etihad’s Lifestyle Concierge team which efficiently coordinates with the airline’s Butlers to give these guests the best private cabin experience to date. Services that will be offer in-flight include entertainment bookings, lifestyle services, special events, dining reservations, destination information. The Residence’s guests who are still in the airport will also have a Concierge team to assists them with all their check-in and security procedures.

Currently, the airline operates six daily services to the UK, having direct routes to London Heathrow, Manchester, and Edinburgh, which started operating in June last year. London Heathrow was picked as the first destination for Etihad Airways’ innovative Airbus A380 fleet, which began its service in late 2014.
