Gadget Review: Nifty Mini Drive Retina for MacBook Pro Retina 13
When I bought my 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina two months ago, I decided to get the one with 256 GB SSD storage since I’m fond of storing my travel and food photos in my laptop for easy access and since I don’t want to be carrying an external hard drive all the time.
At first, I thought the 256 GB internal storage the MB Pro Retina has will be enough for me; however, after just two months of storing travel photos, both old and new, I noticed that it was almost full.
We all know that Apple offers practically zero upgradability options in its MacBook Pro Retina except for its flexible storage. And because of that, most third-party memory manufacturers take advantage of the SD card slot present in MacBook Pro Retina to add semi-permanent storage.
I have to admit, I was on the verge of selling my MacBook to upgrade again to the one with a higher storage capacity, but good thing I recently found the perfect solution to this upgrade dilemma. This solution prevents me from having to upgrade.
And what I’m talking about is the Nifty Mini Drive Retina, a perfect storage and fit backup solution for the MacBook Pro Retina 13.
The Nifty Mini Drive Retina allows me to add storage to my MacBook Pro Retina without an attached portable drive ruining my Mac’s appearance. The mini drive with 4GB of storage also allows mme to slip in my own micro-SD card with up to 128GB of space. Plus, it does not make an eye-sore since it blends well with my Mac’s texture, shape, and color in a seamless fashion. In fact, you will not be bothered by it at all.
It’s attachable so I can remove it anytime, and it’s not as bulky and heavy as the usual external hard drive I use. Furthermore, I can make use of Nifty in Time Machine backups and large file transfers in between my gadgets.
Apart from the fact that it’s easy to use, the Nifty Mini Drive Retina does not need any installation nor does it require internet or technical expertise. This means anyone can utilize it, yes even my Grandma.
Its removal is done using a special hook that comes with the Nifty Mini Drive. This special tool catches the recessed groove located on its adapter, thereby allowing a seamless, effective, and plain easy detachment from the MacBook Pro Retina.
Nifty Mini Drive Retina surely fits into the MacBook’s SD card slot and does not cause disturbance on the MacBook Pro Retina’s smooth finish. Most important of all, the mini drive works with any microSD card brand, whatever size and specifications it has.
To sum it all up, so that you’d know what to expect, the Nifty Drive Mini Drive Retina package includes a Nifty removal tool and a 4 GB pre-inserted micro-SD card. The Nifty Mini Drive Retina drive is also compatible with the late-2013 models of the MacBook Pro Retina 13.
For only P2,150, the Nifty Mini Drive Retina is now available at all Digital Walker and Beyond The Box Branches. To check for Beyond the Box shop near you, visit this link www.beyondthebox.ph.
