The Town of Babylon in Suffolk County, New York, comprises three villages and eleven hamlets. These hamlets include Copiague, Deer Park, East Farmingdale, Wheatley Heights and Gilgo, Oak Beach & Captree. The Town of Babylon borders Nassau County and the Atlantic Ocean, while portions of Fire Island are considered part of the Town of Babylon.
The Town of Babylon was formerly called Huntington South and was part of the Town of Huntington. It was separated by an official partition in 1872. Nathaniel Conklin, one of the largest landowners at the time who played an important role in the early development of Babylon Village, moved with his family in 1803 and called the town “New Babylon,” after the ancient city. Today, the Town of Babylon has developed into a busy business district with several shops and restaurants.
American Airpower Museum
The American Airpower Museum is an aviation museum founded in 2000 by Jeff Clyman and his family. The museum was established to bring aviation history to life to honor veterans, the legacy of local aviation pioneers, and the men and women who built and flew the aircraft. The museum sits on the former Republic Airport established as Fairchild Flying Field and maintains an extensive collection of aviation artifacts and aircraft that dispatched Thunderbolts and the US Air Force’s premier jet fighter bombers.

Bethpage State Park
Bethpage State Park is best known as the site of the U.S. Open Championship in 2002 and 2009, the Barclays in 2012 and 2016, and the PGA Championship in 2019. The park has five world-class 18-hole golf courses known for their difficulty, a Golf Pro Shop, driving range, restaurant, catering facilities, pavilions, picnic facilities with grills, and multi-use trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, sledding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.

Town of Babylon History Museum at Old Town Hall
The Town of Babylon History Museum was built in 1857 and served as the town’s first municipal building. The museum exhibits the town’s founding, a map of the town when it was founded, its first settlers, and how much it has changed from the earliest days to the present day. There is also a replica of the ship that brought the settlers to the New World and the town’s role in the American Revolution and Civil War. The museum is a great place to learn about the town’s history.

Captree State Park
Captree State Park is a 340-acre park and is home to the largest public fishing fleet on Long Island, the Captree Fleet. The park lies on the eastern tip of Jones Island and in the heart of the fishing grounds, much to any fisherman’s delight. The park has large fishing piers and a boat basin with open and charter boats available for saltwater fishing. Captree Fleet also offers scuba diving, canoeing, kayaking, and sightseeing excursions. The park has a bait & tackle shop, full-service restaurant, and picnic facilities with a stunning view of Fire Island and the Fire Island Lighthouse.

Belmont Lake State Park
Belmont Lake State Park is a 463-acre park bisected by Carll’s Creek and Belmont Lake known for the Osprey diving from above to catch fish. The park was previously owned by August Belmont and served as his farmland for equestrian activities before it was donated to the state and established as a state park in 1926. The park is primarily visited for outdoor recreation, picnics, and informal sports activities. Multi-use trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing throughout the park stretch for 7 miles. Pedal boats, rowboats, and kayaks can be rented and launched from the boat dock in the summer. Springtime trout fishing and summer bass fishing are allowed on the lake.

Robert Moses State Park
Robert Moses State Park is a beachfront park that stretches for 5 miles. The park is one of the oldest state parks on Long Island, established in 1908 and named after Robert Moses, an influential mid-20th century urban planner and former president of the Long Island State Park Commission. Popular activities around the beach include swimming, surfing, boogie-boarding, and surf-fishing.
Robert Moses State Park has 5 fields. Field 2 has a secluded 18-hole golf course and a volleyball court area that can simultaneously accommodate up to 21 games. Field 3 is the oldest of the 5 fields and has a scenic picnic area that overlooks the park’s landmark Water Tower. Field 5 is the gateway to Fire Island and has a mile of nature walk that leads to the Fire Island Lighthouse. Field 5 also has an expansive children’s play area. Each field has picnic areas with grills and tables, beach shops, first aid offices, comfort stations, private outdoor showers, and beach wheelchair and mobility mats at the first aid offices.

Adventureland
Adventureland is an amusement park that has been operating since 1962. The park offers several thrill rides like Frisbee and Coaster, water rides like Adventure Falls, family rides like Ferris Wheel, kiddie rides like Caterpillar and several arcade games. There are assorted dining options like snack stands, food courts, and restaurants around the park. Visitors can get season passes or wristbands for unlimited rides and even book a birthday party inside.

Southards Pond Park
Southards Pond Park is a 19-acre forested park with a pond that contains the usual Long Island warm water species like Chain Pickerel, Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Brown Bullhead, Yellow Perch, Carp, Brown Trout, and Rainbow Trout. The park has pedestrian and bicycle trails that wind along tunnels and streams. The pond is part of the Carll’s River and runs from Geiger Park to Belmont Lake through Argyle Lake and into the Great South Bay Estuary. Owners can bring their dogs to the park but must always be on a leash.
Darkness Rising
Darkness Rising is an indoor haunted attraction in Copiague with varying storylines. These could be 18th-century vampires, mysteries of a ghost-ridden town, investigating an infectious outbreak, and surviving violent psychopaths. The attraction is appropriate for guests aged 12 years and above and not for the faint-hearted. Darkness Rising also gives back to charity and has been donating to the YES Community Counseling Center for over 10 years.

Sky Zone Trampoline Park
Sky Zone Trampoline Park is an indoor trampoline park and the originator of wall-to-wall aerial action. Sky Zone offers multiple trampoline-playing courts for freestyle jumping, dunking or playing basketball, soccer, volleyball, and dodgeball, and a designated trampoline for toddlers. Every weekend, the trampoline park becomes a jumping dance club, and a dunk jam tournament is hosted. Sensory hours are also provided for a more quiet and toned-down jumping experience for those with special needs.

The Adventure Park at Long Island
The Adventure Park is a self-guided aerial adventure park with tree-climbing and zip line experiences. The park consists of more than 200 platforms installed in the trees and connected by cable, wood, and rope to form bridges, ladders, and zip lines. These bridges link together to form 14 separate trails, each with its own zip line, for various difficulty levels. The levels are similar to ski trails, Purple, Yellow, Green, Blue, Black, and Double Black.

Anthony Sanchez Memorial Park
The Anthony Sanchez Memorial Park is a small park with a swimming pool, picnic areas, baseball field, softball field, basketball court, and tennis court. The park is dedicated to a New York City police officer who was killed in 1997. Every year, the West Babylon Fire Department’s junior firefighters wear flowers under the park sign in honor of their fallen comrade.

Compared to other beaches in the town, Cedar Beach is less crowded and quieter, with a small pitch & putt golf course to the side. Beach amenities include a children’s playground, public restroom, picnic area with grills, basketball court, and handball court.

Cedar Beach Golf Course
Cedar Beach Golf Course first opened in 1957 and has an 18-hole golf course with a slope rating of 113 and 1,400 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 54. The grounds are well maintained, and the pitch and putt course are more suited for beginners and those looking for a short game. Golfers should wear a bug repellant before playing and watch out for poison ivy.

Just as the Town of Babylon has several social and recreational attractions, the town has several pubs, taverns, and bistros that have been served for a long time. Lily’s Babylon is a great place to check out for an old-time Irish tavern with Traditional American dishes.
