Air Asia Travel Photographer 2015
To “capture Asia” is the first ever Air Asia: Travel Photographer’s theme. Powered by Nikon, this photography contest takes on a little twist to spice the challenge up. Unlike most photography contests, Air Asia: Travel Photographer’s chosen four contestants—who are called ‘contenders’ in Air Asia’s official website for the contest—are not professionals.
The official website states that Air Asia in partnership with ThinkDharma Inc (exclusive distributor of Nikon Digital Cameras in the Philippines) and made sure that the contenders have “no or very little knowledge of professional photography”. To add more thrill to the challenge, no information about the chosen four contenders were given in the official website, so that means the people who will afterwards vote for the best photographs will at least be free of any biases.

Let the game begin…
The four contenders are going to be sent to different Air Asia destinations, each with an accompanying professional Photography coach. In this years AirAsia Travel Photographer search, four non-photographers including a car salesman and a barista are stepping out of their comfort zones and into the challenges of becoming the first AirAsia Travel Photographer for 2015.
The mechanics of the challenge state that once the contenders have arrived in their given destination, each must take a photo for the five categories Air Asia have set: portrait, landscape, food, architecture, and a 9-photo collage that showcases the culture of the city they were sent to.
Well known Photographers and Nikon users George Tapan, Raymond Cruz, Parc Cruz and Adam Lee will be traveling around Hong Kong, Yogyakarta Indonesia, Taiwan and Kuala Lumpur Malaysia to help the contenders capture their best photo entries across a range of categories that include landscape, food, portrait, architecture and travel.
The contenders’ accompanying coaches will not be allowed to interfere with the contenders’ camera, choice of location, and choice of shots. Coaches will only be allowed to give hints, tips, and camera tricks, but not directly influence their assigned contenders.
The taken photographs will be allowed to be edited in-camera, but not with the aid of any external post-editing software.
