Where to Stay in Tacloban City: Rosvenil Hotel Review
Visiting a foreign place is exciting albeit perplexing for some. Exciting for the new adventures and experience that lay ahead but perplexing if you crave for the comfort of home while vacationing somewhere far. Hotels are the way to go for the latter if your budget permits. But if you do not want to blow your travel fund on accommodation alone then I say the next best thing is to explore pension houses and hostels in your next destination.

We stayed at Rosvenil Hotel during our visit to Tacloban. Our stay here, in my opinion, was an experience in itself. The place was welcoming, the staff friendly and the ambiance charming like a long-awaited stay at your grandparents’ place. The hotel was built around an ancestral house making our stay feel local. The house is now inaccessible to visitors since it has been converted back as rest house of the owners. In any case guests are still welcome to lounge in the garden and enjoy some quiet time.

The hotel is located at P. Burgos Street close to the city center and a stone’s away from restaurants, cafés, banks and churches. It is a good 20 minutes away from the airport sans traffic making it an ideal choice when you visit Tacloban. We had no prior reservations upon arrival but the staff were accommodating with last minute requests and were helpful directing us to a nearby Italian resto.

Rosvenil Hotel has two wings and we stayed at the new wing on the right side of the compound. Three floors are dedicated to lodging while a function hall sits at the topmost level. We stayed at the Deluxe Twin Room which had a desk, a lounge chair and a toilet and bath. I was partly expecting a simpler room interior and bath but ours looked like a typical hotel in the metro only more economical. Accommodation comes with complimentary breakfast and guests can avail it from 6am to 9am.

The hotel has a restaurant which serves as the breakfast parlor for guests, a convenience store open until midnight and ample parking space. They change the menu of the breakfast buffet daily which was an upside although I was not a fan of eating rice and viand (it was adobo for Day 2) early in the morning. That thought aside, the 3 days and 2 nights we spent at Rosvenil were worthwhile. The place was nothing fancy or grand but it had a familiar comfort enough to soothe you after days spent on experience and good company.
