Are you a self-confessed foodie traveler? Are you currently in search for extraordinary foodie hotspots near Metro Manila? Well, we’ve compiled a list of the best food destinations located in the south of the Metro. Read on.

Taal, Batangas

If you are craving for local delicacies, such as sinaing na tulingan, sweet adobo, pork estofado, as well as taghilaw, head to Taal Batangas. What makes the visit even more interesting are the existence of beautiful old houses in the area and one of them was actually turned into a restaurant. Casa Cecilia restaurant is housed at a family home in the place which is believed to be century-old and they serve pancit lomi and other local dishes.

Angono, Rizal

Angono is not only popular as the country’s art capital – where you can find a wide array of art museums – it is also a place for these exquisite delicacies: nilasing na palaka, tapang usa or baboy damo, sinabawang balot as well as kamaro (crickets). Balaw Balaw restaurant offers all of these.

Pagsanjan Laguna

Pagsanjan is the tourism capital of the province of Laguna. Aside from the famous Pagsanjan Falls, this town is also a popular foodie spot. One of the best places to eat in Pagsanjan is at Calle Arco. A restaurant located near the stone arch – a famous landmark in Pagsanjan, this place serves heirloom recipes from the owners parents and friends. Try their Binagoongang Crispy pata, Paco Salad and Sinigang na Baka sa Langka – three of my favorite dishes in the resto.

San Pablo, Laguna

When you are in San Pablo, look for Casa San Pablo – seated in an old coconut plantation. The restaurant serves multitude mouthwatering offerings, including: chicken adobo sa gata, kulawo, pinaltok and a lot more. Next to San Pablo is the town of Tiaong in Quezon Province. Try to visit Ugo Bigyan’s Potter’s Garden and taste some of the finest cuisine of Southern Tagalog.

Tagaytay

Tawilis at Diner’s Café is a popular resto in Tagaytay offering tawilis – a tasty and delectable freshwater sardine found only in the lake of Taal. It is usually prepared as fried or as pinangat (wrapped in banana leaves). For budget conscious travelers, try the hole in the wall restaurants in Tagaytay’s Mahogany Market.
