Wyndham Hotel Group has announced that it will work with master franchisee Microtel Inns & Suites (Pilipinas) in the Philippines to bring in another hotel brand, Tryp by Wyndham. The first Tryp by Wyndham hotel is slated to open its doors in 2016, and will be the first of its brand to be brought to Southeast Asia. The Microtel franchisee already has 13 hotels under the Microtel Inn & Suites brand in various parts of the country.
The Tryp brand was acquired by holding company Wyndham Worldwide from Sol Meliá Hotels & Resorts of Spain in 2010. Tryp by Wyndham is described as a “select-service” brand designed for the midmarket, much like the offerings under the Microtel brand.

A select service hotel is also called a limited-service hotel, where there are fewer options for dining, and the amenities focus on what are required by today’s business traveler. This typically includes a business center, small meeting rooms, an indoor and/or outdoor pool, a guest laundry facility, a fitness room, and a market pantry. This keeps operational costs lower than full-service hotels without compromising the quality of service. It is thus ideal for guests that would like to combine business with leisure.
The first Tryp by Wyndham hotels in Southeast Asia will be located in Pasay City at the Mall of Asia. The regional managing director and president of Wyndham Hotel Group Barry Robinson observed of the Philippines, “The country is a unique destination that is growing in popularity and a place where the brand’s differentiating service culture and passion will resonate with travellers. We look forward to seeing the first of many Tryp by Wyndham hotels open in the country.” Over the next 10 years, the group plans to put up seven more locations. “We are thrilled to introduce Tryp by Wyndham to the Philippines as we look to expand the brand’s presence throughout Asia.”
Microtel Inns & Suites (Pilipinas) Inc. president and CEO Jose Mari Del Rosario concurred that tourism in the Philippines is increasing, for both the international and domestic market. He stated that The Tryp by Wyndham hotel brand is ideal for catering to those seeking accommodations with a city-center lifestyle. “The brand experience will address that work-leisure niche.” Del Rosario points out that, “Young urban professionals are constantly travelling now, combining work and leisure, and these travellers are a perfect fit for the Tryp by Wyndham concept.
Wyndham Hotel Group introduced the Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham brand in the Philippines in 2001 under the Microtel Inns & Suites (Pilipinas) franchise. With currently 13 Microtel Inns under its belt, it is now the Master Franchisee in the Philippines. Aside from the Microtel brand, Wyndham Hotel Group has 6 other hotels operating in the Philippines under its Days Inn and Ramada brand names.
