The latest figures from VFS Global point to continued strong interest in international travel among Filipinos, whether for holidays, business, education, or visiting family and friends abroad.

From January to August 2026, visa application volumes across all categories rose 20% year-on-year. Demand for non-Schengen destinations grew even faster, rising by 28%, while applications for Schengen destinations remained broadly stable.

The figures highlight Filipino travelers’ continued appetite for international travel, particularly to destinations across Asia, Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Oceania.

Non-Schengen Visa Demand Climbs 28%

Non-Schengen destinations saw the strongest growth in the first eight months of 2026, with visa application volumes from the Philippines up 28% compared with the same period last year.

The most popular non-Schengen destinations among Filipino travelers were:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Japan
  • Saudi Arabia
  • United Kingdom

The destinations reflect the diverse reasons Filipinos travel overseas. Japan and Australia remain popular leisure destinations, while Canada and the United Kingdom attract travelers for tourism, family visits, business, education, and other purposes. Saudi Arabia also remains an important destination for Filipinos traveling for work and other opportunities.

Schengen Visa Demand Remains Stable

Demand for Schengen destinations remained about the same from January to August 2026.

The most popular Schengen destinations among Filipino travelers were:

  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Switzerland

These European destinations continue to attract Filipino visitors for leisure, cultural experiences, business trips, family visits, and other forms of international travel.

The stable demand also suggests Europe remains an important part of Filipinos’ overseas travel plans, despite stronger growth in non-Schengen destinations.

Doorstep Visa Services Grow 58%

Convenience is also becoming an increasingly important consideration for Filipino visa applicants.

VFS Global reported a 58% year-on-year increase in demand for its Visa At Your Doorstep service during the first eight months of 2026.

The service lets applicants complete the visa submission process from home, the office, or another preferred location. Depending on the destination and requirements, applicants can submit documents, complete biometric enrollment, and have their passports returned by courier.

For travelers with busy schedules, the service can reduce the need to visit a visa application center for every step of the application process.

Visa At Your Doorstep Available for 20 Countries

VFS Global currently offers doorstep visa services for 20 countries in the Philippines.

These include:

  • Australia
  • Belgium
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Japan
  • Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Malta
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Switzerland
  • Türkiye
  • United Kingdom
  • The Netherlands

VFS Global also offers a Mobile Visa Application Centre, or MVAC, service for the listed countries. The facility brings visa application services closer to applicants while adding convenience and security features.

VFS Global Urges Travelers to Apply Early

Atul Lall, Regional Head for North Asia at VFS Global, said the increase in visa applications reflects growing confidence among Filipino travelers and continued interest in international travel.

He noted that Filipinos are traveling abroad for different reasons, including leisure, business, education, and reconnecting with family and friends.

VFS Global expects demand to remain healthy across key destinations for the rest of 2026.

The company is also encouraging travelers to plan ahead and submit visa applications well before their intended departure dates. Early planning can give applicants more time to prepare the required documents and address potential issues before their trip.

Travelers should also use official visa channels when checking application requirements, fees, appointment procedures, and processing information.

VFS Global Operates 64 Visa Application Centers

VFS Global currently provides visa application services for 36 sovereign governments in the Philippines.

Its network includes 64 visa application centers across eight cities:

  • Batangas City

  • Taguig

The governments served through the network include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Gambia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Lithuania, Malta, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Qatar, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Türkiye, UAE, United Kingdom, and Ukraine.

VFS Global also provides selected visa, medical, and attestation services for some destinations.

What VFS Global Does During a Visa Application

Travelers should remember that VFS Global does not decide whether an applicant receives a visa.

Its role is limited to administrative services associated with the visa application process. These may include collecting application forms, receiving supporting documents based on the relevant checklist, and collecting biometric information when required.

The relevant government or diplomatic authority makes the final decision to approve or refuse a visa.

What the Increase Means for Filipino Travelers

The 20% increase in visa applications during the first eight months of 2026 points to continued strong interest in overseas travel among Filipinos.

The 28% growth in non-Schengen applications is particularly notable, showing that destinations outside the Schengen Area are gaining momentum among Filipino travelers.

At the same time, stable Schengen demand confirms that European travel remains firmly on Filipino tourists’ radar.

The sharp rise in demand for doorstep visa services also points to another trend. Travelers are increasingly willing to pay for convenience when preparing for international trips, especially when the service can save time and reduce visits to visa application centers.

For Filipinos planning international trips for the remainder of 2026, applying early, preparing complete documentation, and checking information through official visa channels remain essential steps.
