Fall in love with Lakawon Island: Negros Occidental’s Precious Gem

When was the last time you escaped the city and visited Paradise? Well, here is one. Try sailing away at Lakawon Island, touted as the “Boracay of Negros Occidental,” and have the best time of your lives.

Lakawon Islands is a sprawling 13-hectare banana-shaped island about 3 km off Cadiz City – and is now becoming a destination of choice by local and foreign tourists – especially the TawHai Floating Bar, dubbed as the biggest floating bar in Asia.

Aside from the floating bar, you can experience the clear, sunlit waters of Lakawon Island and some water activities too! For first-time visitors on the island, the Out Of Town Travel Blog has listed how to savor the beguiling destination.

The best time to visit Lakawon Island

  • November to December – It’s the perfect period to visit the island since it’s not usually crowded during these months.
  • January to April is considered the dry season in Lakawon Island and the rest of the Philippines. It is the perfect season if you want to avoid being stranded on the island.
  • April to May is considered the summer season in the Philippines, and the island is expected to attract local tourists.
  • May to October – Considered the rainy season in the Philippines. This is also an off-peak season and you can expect hotel and airline rates to be much lower.

How To Go There

From Manila, book a flight to Bacolod City. The flight takes about one hour and twenty minutes. If you are on a budget, 2GO offers almost daily ferry trips from Manila to Bacolod that takes around 27 hours at just around Php 900.00.

In Bacolod, ride a bus going to Cadiz City. From there, take a tricycle and alight to Barangay Cadiz Viejo where you’ll find boats that will take you to Lakawon Island. It will only take you twenty minutes to get to the island resort. Take note that the island’s entrance fee is only PHP 140.00.

  • Fly to Bacolod (1 hour and 20 minutes)
  • Bus from Bacolod to Cadiz City
  • Tricycle to the Port
  • Buy Boat ticket and Pay entrance and terminal fee (Regular boat fare is P310, and already includes the Island Entrance Fee)
  • Boat to Lakawon Island (20 Minutes)

Things to Bring

Although the resort has a shop, it would be cheaper if you include these things in your travel bag before you head to the island.

  • Dri-fit long-sleeve shirts
  • Boardshorts and your favorite swimwear
  • Sunblock
  • Power bank
  • Dry Bag
  • Sand-proof beach towels
