Meaningful Experiences Formed Through Juan for Fun 2018
(Manila, Philippines) First-time travelers all share feelings of excitement, curiosity and nervousness and most want to travel so they can have an experience like no other. Traveling is a venue for learning and exploring from getting on the plane to going to a dream destination and this is what the three winning teams of Juan for Fun 2018 encountered. This is the first time for the three of the five winning teams to travel by air but they did exemplary when they joined the seven-day backpacking challenge of Cebu Pacific. The members of Team Kim, Team Nathan, and Team Ronil were given the chance to go to some of the most amazing destinations of Cebu Pacific.
These newbie JUANderers said that they went through challenges during their travel but everything was a learning experience for them especially for proper planning, time management and setting a budget. The most important thing they learned though is how to travel and promote responsible tourism which may refer to things like trying to reduce negative environmental impact and helping in the conservation of Mother Nature.
Cebu Pacific wanted to broaden the knowledge of the winning teams about responsible tourism through their “Special Fun Challenge Booklet” which contains the lists of the team’s tasks for eco-adventure and sustainable tourism activities. Team Ronil members Ronil Jr. Ferolino, Rose Ann Canoy and Deofranco Mahinay traveled to Basco, Batanes for tree planting activities. They also made a video of their adventure entitled “Travel with a Purpose Video”.
Team Kim members Frances Kemble Banico, Loraine Filomeno, and Mark Lao, on the other hand, tested the blue waters of Palawan and they understood very well what the purpose of traveling is. They said that many people nowadays are addicted to the internet and Social Media and this has taken a toll on social interaction and experiences. They said that through this travel, they were able to experience making face-to-face connections once again and were able to witness the beauty of nature firsthand.
Lastly, Team Nathan members Jonathan Cuanso, Necholnso, and Kenny Galvan shared that travel can be a form of learning and they learned to be in tuned with their surroundings which can help them become better people. Team Nathan bagged the Travel with a Purpose Award due to their new insight. They won round-trip tickets to any Cebu Pacific destination they wish to go to. Team Leader, Jonathan Cuanso said that his experience with Juan for Fun gave him a new perspective about the environment and the responsibilities of traveling especially for future teachers like him and the members of his team.
