Have you ever been to Sugarlandia?
To commemorate its 10th year in the market, the Philippine Premium Single Island Rum Don Papa Rum takes you to a fantasy world called Sugarlandia inside the artwork on the label of its bottle in a new animation video made in Hedcut style.

This video was launched this January 2023 at a dinner where we, the brand’s friends, and family celebrated Don Papa’s anniversary. The special four-hands dinner was held in Xception, Makati City. The room was adorned with flora and fauna from Sugarlandia, along with the Sugarlandia creatures dancing to entertain and complete the vibe of the celebration. While waiting, the guests enjoyed delicious cocktails made, of course, of Don Papa Rum.
Another highlight of this gathering are the chefs of the dinner, Cyrus Todiwala of Café Spice Namaste and Patrick Go of Your Local. The menu melded Philippine and Negrense flavors from Chef Patrick together with the Asian and international touches from Chef Cyrus, showcasing where the brand came from as well as how far its reach has gone all over the world.
While every food served on our plate was a star to the tastebuds because of the world-class touch, I was delighted with the newly-debuted Don Papa cocktail called Sampinit Sour, created by Aaron Goodall, the brand’s Manila-based Cocktail Maestro. When we think of Philippine fruits, we often think of mangoes, calamansi, coconuts, and other tropical fruits. But a lesser-known seasonal berry is also found here; the sampinit, a Philippine wild raspberry which I only learned because of this event!
Much like the hidden nature of the Sugarlandia is Calling video, the Sampinit Sour highlights a flavor not often thought of when thinking about the Philippines. Together with Don Papa Rum creates a refreshingly crisp cocktail, perfect for a summer’s eve.
Don Papa Rum has come far, from a local brand launched in the Philippines 10 years ago to now a well-loved premium rum present in more than 30 countries. Be on the lookout for what Don Papa Rum has in store this 2023.
