Weekend Getaway in Antipolo

Valentine’s Day at Luljetta’s Hanging Gardens Spa

On the hunt for the ultimate Valentine’s Day gift? I commend you for planning 2 weeks ahead. Past the generic chocolates and flowers, a trip to the spa is next level appreciation and Luljetta’s Hanging Gardens Spa is a notable option.

Location, Location, Location

Luljetta’s Hanging Gardens Spa is found east of Manila Philippines in the darling mountain slopes of Antipolo. It’s far enough for a stellar getaway from the city yet close enough to come back same day relaxed. Depending on the time of day, you can find yourself in paradise after only an hour Uber drive from Makati. Louise of Wonderfilled Journal and I left on a Wednesday at 11:42am and arrived at 12:54pm with a fare of 310 pesos. Alternatives are public transportation and Bienvenido Tours’ shuttle services.

Instagramability … If that’s a word

If you or your Valentine are a fan of posting your romantic retreats, a trip to Luljetta’s is guaranteed to elevate your social media. A day at this spa includes a Batik-batik robe that alone is already Instagram worthy. Include a breathtaking scenery of Laguna de Bay and Manila skyscrapers with a mountainside sunset by an infinity pool and you’ll have enough photos for a Facebook album. Wait, does anyone make FB albums anymore?

Valentine’s Day Package

Our friends at Bienvenido Tours is offering an amazing couple getaway for the month of February:

To break it down, 5 hours at Luljetta’s Hanging Gardens Spa means access to their 3 spa levels down a mountain side. This includes Jacuzzi, saunas, pools (hydro-massage and infinity pools), Dr.Fish and countless lounging areas with one containing a movie theater.

New to the spa life? There are spa attendants to assist you along the way. I’d suggest to try the Jacuzzi first to relax those muscles then make your way to the hydro-massage pool to undo those knots. A little later try 5-10 minutes in the sauna to sweat it out. To finish, bask in the infinity pool to close your pores up. As for Dr.Fish, fish that eat the dead skin off your feet, I can’t promise that you’ll get over how ticklish and overwhelming they are. It took me 2 days to get used to it so insert that into your itinerary when you’re brave enough.

Come as early as possible. I can’t stress this enough. 10am opening with soft morning lighting and few people around means you can enjoy your spa getaway in refreshing silence. Louise and I greatly enjoyed the quiet with less people in our photos and no wait to use facilities.

A delicious snack of SuMaKa awaits you at the lobby. We ate the fried rice cake glazed with caramel topped with local cashews and mango slices while watching the sunset.

Breakfast is included as well. I ate a standard Filipino breakfast of beef tapa (thinly sliced beef sirloin) with rice and fried egg. If you’re a fan of good Filipino food, try Verde Restaurant’s menu in Loreland Farm Resort which is just a short walk from Luljetta’s Place. We had really good Kare-Kare (meat in peanut sauce stew) and Bulalo (Beef Marrow Stew). It wasn’t as good as my papa’s Kare-Kare but it was equally filling ;).

We stayed overnight in a Governor’s suite that provides 2 floors with 2 bathrooms. This blogging duo each took a floor for ultimate privacy and comfortable for 4pax. The Valentine’s Day package features a Councilor’s Studio Room that is equally as cozy with one bed for 2 pax.

The Ultimate Back Cracking Massage

Something to consider as an add-on is the Luljetta’s Signature massage. If you’re like my friend back in Canada (shout-out to Emily Condon), we live for the sound of cracking joints. It doesn’t matter if you request light, medium or hard pressure, the included stretching will provided that satisfactory crack in places you didn’t know existed. It was my first time experiencing a full back stretch, a symphony of little cracks along the spine, to which I let out a gasp of shock mid-session haha. Note that the massage is performed in a room with multiple massage tables divided by curtains. Make sure to book in advance as there are limited slots.
