Earlier, I attended the kick off event of this years Cebu Pacific Juan for Fun Backpacker Challenge 2013 held at Maxims Hotel in Resorts World Manila. Just like last year, Fifteen young backpackers will be exploring six daring destinations in seven days.

Cebu Pacific Juan for Fun Backpacker Challenge 2013
The Cebu Pacific Juan for Fun Backpacker Challenge promises more colorful adventures and even bigger prizes. On its second year, Cebu Pacific takes thrill-seeking students from different parts of the country in an all-expenses-paid backpacking trip around the country.
Team Awesome – Always up for an adventure, Windon Lim, 18, Shemaiah Xyza Baja, 19, and Leander Dan Aldemita, 18, of Team Awesome are BS Accounting Technology students of University of San Carlos in Cebu.
Starting today till September 2,2013, five carefully selected teams are tasked to have as many fun and adventurous experiences, armed with their travel allowance of P35,000 per team. For this year, these student backpackers will explore Manila, Aklan, Cebu, Davao, Dipolog and Iloilo.
To ensure that each team are following the rules and guidelines, a marshall will be assigned for each team to check record their expenses and validate their daily activities. At the end of the challenge, the team with the most number of fun experiences and the least amount of total expenses will win the competition.
Team Seven – Hitchiking their way to the finish line, Bukidnon State University students Mark Dominick Pat, 20, Irish Gayle Cajigas, 19, and Cyryll Juvan Macas, 22, are Team Seven.
Backpacking Challenge Criteria: Fun Activities (50%) and Budget Friendliness (50%). In each destination, there will be a special fun challenges prepared by the Department of Tourism in which each teams gets a chance to win additional prizes.
Team Lemixian – Ready to take on the challenge—Trixie Laine Gacott, 20, Angelica Mendoza, 20, and Leah May Camacho, 21, are Team Lemixian from Palawan.
“Taking fun-loving students from all over the Philippines on this one-of-a-kind backpacking trip is one of the reasons why we fly. For some students, it’s their first time on a plane. For some, it’s their first time in a certain destination. This kind of excitement from students energizes us, and reminds us just how much we can learn from travel, and how adventurous we can be,” said Cebu Pacific Vice President for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.
Team Sun Broadband – Laura Cua, 21, and Aldric Cua and Stephanie Bernardo, both 19, of Team Sun Broadband say yes to an unforgettable backpacking trip.
Meet the thrill-seekers
Team Crimson – Explorers and musicians—So Myeong Lee, 21, Sesinando Quilao, Jr., 23 and Patrik Norouzi, 21, of Team Crimson also perform together in a band.
Team Crimson consists of Filipino Sesinando Quilao, Jr., Iranian Patrik Norouzi and South Korean So Myeong Lee. These Silliman University students and church band members may have different backgrounds, but they are united by their common love for travel, adventure and music.
Team Seven is composed of Bukidnon State University’s Cyryll Juvan Macas, Mark Dominick Pat and Irish Gayle Cajigas. These outdoor sports enthusiasts are willing to go the distance for extreme adventure.
The all-girl Team Lemixian is composed of Trixie Laine Gacott of Holy Trinity University, and Angelica Mendoza and Leah May Camacho of Palawan State University. They call themselves professional fun adventurers who believe that “maraming paraan basta for fun (There are a lot of ways to have fun).”
Cebuanos with comedic timing, Windom Lim, Leander Dan Aldemita and Shemaiah Xyza Baja of University of San Carlos Cebu make up Team Awesome.
Hiking, surfing, ziplining, scuba diving—name it, they have done it. De La Salle University-Manila students Aldric Chua, Stephanie Bernardo and Laura Cua compose Team Sun Broadband.
Juan for Fun prizes
The winning team will get 12 round-trip tickets to any short-haul international or domestic destination, plus a three-day, two-night Philippine tour package for three, courtesy of the Philippine Department of Tourism. Each member of the team will also receive Samsung Galaxy tablets, Wenger watches, Sun Cellular pocket wifi and broadband wireless kits.
During the event, Cebu Pacific also hosted a simple challenge for the Media and Bloggers who attended the event. Together with Gianna Maniego – Manila Standard Today’s Lifestyle Editor, we won two roundtrip tickets to Phuket Thailand.
