With the Funboard Cup’s continuous success in promoting the travel industry in Western Visayas, Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 6 Regional Director Atty. Helen Catalbas gave the annual event the Regional Director’s Award.
According to Atty. Catalbas, “the Boracay International Funboard Cup has been given the Regional Director’s Award for the event contribution to the development and promotion of the tourism industry in Western Visayas, which has brought about a significant impact and long term positive benefits to the industry. It is also one way of promoting Boracay as a premier windsurfing and kiteboarding destination in the country, Asia and the world.”
DOT Region 6 also believes that this sporting event is an excellent way to promote the Philippines as a great travel destination for sports-minded individuals.
Director Catalbas stressed, “Boracay is not just about the white sand and night life. The island can also be promoted as a primary tourist destination for health and wellness, ecotourism and extreme tourism, especially sports activities.”
