Located in the northwestern part of the Negros Island, the coastal community once sprawled with sugarcane plantations, thus earning its title as “The Sugarbowl of the Philippines”.
Bacolod, officially the City of Bacolod and often referred to as Bacolod City, is a highly urbanized city in the Philippines. It is the capital of the province of Negros Occidental where it is geographically situated but governed administratively independent from it.
The Bacolod-Silay International Airport, located in the nearby City of Silay, is 15 kilometers north-east from Bacolod. Bacolod is 1 hour by air from Manila, 30 minutes by air from Cebu, 1 hour by air from Cagayan de Oro and 1 hour and 10 minutes by air from Davao City.

Today, Bacolod is an urbanized city known for its food, heritage sites, ancestral homes, and annual Masskara Festival, held on the fourth Sunday of October. During this celebration, the city’s streets are filled with groups of festive dancers wearing ornate smiling masks. This eventually gave rise to its more popular nickname, the “City of Smiles”.
