Tony Fernandez, CEO of the AirAsia group accepted the prestigious award at the ceremony of the Asean Business Award (ABA) 2017 on behalf of the company. This was held last night in Solaire Resort and Casino.

Asean Business Advisory Council Chairman Joey Concepcion, presented the award as witnessed by no other than the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Roa Duterte and the Secretary of Philippine Trade Ramon Lopez.

“Asean integration is about people as much as it is about policies. It’s not just about having a community on paper. It’s about experiencing first-hand how others live, it’s about creating new jobs in travel and tourism, it’s about forming new supply chains by connecting places that have never been connected. Air travel does this and more – AirAsia carried 13.4 million people within Asean last year – and we are proud to do our part to bring the region closer together.”, Tony Fernandez said.

The Asean BAC created the ABA in 2017. This is made to recognize the exceptional ASEAN enterprises and serve as a means of spreading information regarding the Asean Economic Community. It also puts the SMEs on the spotlight; showing their capabilities or potentials to become global economic players in the industries that they belong.

There were also awards for women entrepreneurs, young entrepreneurs and SME excellence. The Legacy Award and Friend of Asean Award were also given.
