A Sunny Adventure to Mt. Gulugod Baboy and Sumbrero Island
Finally had the chance to do a dayhike in Mt. Gulugod Baboy and do a sidetrip in Sumbrero Island in fair weather. I’m excited to see the contrast on how this mountain looks like since the last time we scaled it, it was raining incessantly.

While our lungs were still adjusting, we are challenged right away by the steep ascent in concrete and soil. We completed the hike back and forth in less than 5 hours with ample breaks drinking coconut juice on the nearby residents’ huts along the way.

Although sunny, some parts of our hike were cloudy and windy which made us appreciate more the greenery backdrop with sea views at the peak.

We were also welcomed by dogs and cattle through the hike.

Though I think it would be better if we reach the top during sunrise, the itinerary understandably made that impossible. You will get excited by the glimpse of the sea views as you go up making you think what wonder awaits at the top, much more so during sunrise or sunset!

We began trekking around 7am then by 1230pm we were on our way to Sumbrero Island for the side trip. Swimming and snorkeling were the activities available on the island to kill the time until 5:30pm. The tides were surprisingly timid and travel time to the island was about 25mins.

After all that, we had a great dinner at Johannes Grille with its best-selling baby back ribs before heading back to Manila. TrailAdventours had their usual contest for the best photo during the hike and had given towels, waterproof pouch, and lace as souvenirs. Shout out to our tour guides Mik, Brent and Jun who were very helpful and accommodating.
