Overnight at Catamaran Beach Resort in Negombo, Sri Lanka
Upon arriving in the beautiful Changi Airport in Singapore, I decided to visit Changi Point Mall as recommended by a travel blogger friend, since we have almost 5 hours transit time in Singapore. We originally planned to go to the city, but to maximize our time, we decided to visit Changi Point Mall instead. After all, the mall is just one train station away from Terminal 2.
Changi Airport Terminal 3 in Singapore
After a few hours of waiting at the airport, we finally went to the check-in counter of Sri Lanka Airlines. The check-in process was not seamless as I expected; I was a bit surprised and disappointed that the ground staff was not aware that Philippine passport holders are not required to have a Sri Lankan visa, unless we will be staying for more than 30 days in the country.
Finally got my Boarding Pass to Colombo Sri Lanka
What surprised me more is that the check-in counter staff was not aware that citizens from 12 countries can now avail of the Visa on Arrival in Kerala, India – our destination. I even informed her that Tourist Visa-on-Arrival is available for travelers from Japan, Singapore, Finland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar and Indonesia. It took a while before they finally verified the Visa Policies of both Sri Lanka and India.
From Changi Airport we boarded the Sri Lanka Airlines flight to Colombo, which took us another 4 hours. The flight was a pleasant one, from their delicious menu and spacious legroom to the seamless landing. My first Sri Lanka Airlines flight was truly an awesome one.

When we arrived in Colombo, we traveled for about 30 minutes to Catamaran Beach Resort (check hotel rates) where we stayed until 4am. Sri Lanka Airlines booked us a room since we had almost 12-hour flight intervals from Colombo to Kerala.
Located along the golden beaches of Negombo, Catamaran Beach Hotel (hotel info) is a famous holiday destination for beach lovers. I stayed in a standard room with 3 single beds. The room was spacious, air-conditioned and equipped with basic amenities. It was also furnished with tea/coffee making facilities, a well-stocked mini bar, Plasma television, telephone with IDD services and en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold-water facilities.
From my veranda, I can hear the relaxing sea breeze and a great view of the pool. Unfortunately, we didn’t have ample time to explore the beach and the resort amenities, since we had to sleep early to prepare for our early morning flight. Overall, our short stay at the resort was comfortable and pleasant. Thanks to the helpful staff at the restaurant and the front office, I’ll probably go back and stay again at the resort in the near future.
