Reasons to Visit Cebu
As one of the top cities in the country, Cebu certainly has a lot to offer its visitors, whether it is their first time visiting the island or the nth time. The beautiful thing about Cebu is that its sights are not just concentrated within the city but also scattered throughout. Hence, it forces everyone to explore both northern and southern regions.
Exactly why is Cebu a great place to visit? Here are among the top things people love coming home to:
Street Food

The island offers many street foods that will satisfy everyone’s gastronomic cravings. It is not just the food of choice for budget travelers but also provides a whirlwind adventure to anyone brave enough. You can try out Chinese-inspired dishes such as siomai or lumpia, but there are also unhealthy and mouthwatering choices such as ginabot (pork intestines).
Hungry for more? Why not try out tuslob buwa (literally, dip-bubbles), a pork brain fondue in simplest terms. Grossed out? There’s also the lansiao (soup number 5), said to be an aphrodisiac, and bakasi (salt water eels).

Lechon
Or if you are looking for something slightly normal, there’s always the lechon. Lechon is the country’s national dish, but it is said that the best recipes can be found in Cebu. Not sure where to go? Be sure to visit these top places to eat lechon de Cebu!

Beaches
The island has long been popular among tourists for its beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters. The best places to swim are usually located in the far north (Bantayan Island) and somewhere in the south (Moalboal), but there are also many beaches to visit just near the center. Mactan Island is also known for its world-class resorts.
Cebu, a province in the Philippines, is known for its stunning beaches that offer crystal-clear waters, powdery white sand, and breathtaking underwater landscapes. Here are some of the most popular beaches in Cebu:
- Malapascua Island Beach — Located in the northern part of Cebu, Malapascua Island is famous for its serene and idyllic beaches. It offers a relaxing atmosphere and is renowned for its diving spots, particularly Monad Shoal, where you can swim with thresher sharks.
- Bantayan Island Beach — Bantayan Island boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Cebu. The pure white sand and turquoise waters create a picturesque setting. Santa Fe Beach is a must-visit, with its stunning sunrise views and vibrant atmosphere.
- Moalboal Beach — Situated in the southwestern part of Cebu, Moalboal is a paradise for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. The white sandy beaches, clear waters, and diverse marine life make it an ideal destination for underwater exploration.
- Sumilon Island Beach — Located in Oslob, Sumilon Island has pristine beaches and stunning marine sanctuaries. Its powdery white sand and clear turquoise waters attract beach lovers and snorkeling enthusiasts alike. Don’t miss the chance to visit the famous Sumilon Sandbar, which emerges during low tide.
- Camotes Island Beaches — Camotes Islands, composed of four islands – Poro, Pacijan, Ponson, and Tulang, offer a variety of beautiful beaches. From the hidden treasure of Santiago Bay Beach to the famous white sand of Mangodlong Beach, Camotes Islands hold a charm worth exploring.
Discover the stunning beaches of Cebu that offer something for everyone! From peaceful relaxation to thrilling adventure, explore the many beautiful beaches that make up this amazing destination. Whether you’re looking for a spot to soak up the sun or a place to take a dip in the ocean, Cebu’s beaches offer a variety of experiences to enjoy.
Diving Spots

If wading or snorkeling in the sea is not enough for you, why not try diving? Malapascua Island is the best place to dive in Cebu, also considered the best place to see thresher sharks. Moalboal’s Pescador Island is also a well-known diving spot where hammerheads and white-tip sharks can be seen.
Diving in Cebu is possible year-round, but certain seasons offer more favorable conditions. The best time to dive depends on your preferences:
- High Season: March to June is generally considered the high season, with warm waters and excellent visibility. It’s a great time to spot marine life, including turtles, reef sharks, and schooling fish.
- Low Season: July to December brings occasional rain and poorer visibility due to plankton blooms. However, this also attracts whale sharks, making it a unique opportunity for underwater encounters with these gentle giants.
- Shoulder Season: January to February can be a great compromise, with generally good visibility and good chances to spot various marine species. It’s also a less crowded time for diving in Cebu.

Waterfalls
Even Cebu’s inland water forms are not to be missed. Planning to chase waterfalls? Well, the perfect place to do that is in the southern town of Samboan — it has Aguinid Falls, Triple Drop Falls, Dao Falls, Bonbon Falls, and a few other attractions.
You can also drop by Kawasan Falls, perhaps the province’s most famous waterfalls.

Mountains
Did you know there are at least seven mountains to climb in Cebu? Well, that’s just for beginners. If you want even more challenges, there are still at least six more popular ones and a handful of others yet to be popularized.
Fun adventures
When one hears about Cebu, the first thing that probably comes to mind is canyoneering in Badian. There are a lot of other things to do in Cebu: diving, snorkeling, hiking, camping, swimming with whale sharks in Oslob, and a whole lot of different adventures.

In the city, the most adventurous thing to do would be to go high up the 37th floor of the Crown Regency Towers and Residences and do the Sky Experience Adventure!
Vibrant nightlife
Are you a party animal? Well, Cebu is your best place to be! Mango Avenue and Cebu IT Park are among the most popular places to dance and party the night away.

Friendliest people
I’ll try not to be biased here, but the Cebuanos are among the friendliest and most hospitable people you will meet. Check out Cebu Wanderers (or join their group) if you want to join adventures with other people, meet new friends, and save money simultaneously.
