Located at Maria Luisa Road – Banilad, this black building boasts of its spot-on, a little quirky and out of the box personality and hospitality and its fascination with Marilyn Monroe and the tiniest of details. This is an account of my first-hand experience, or as they would like to call it, a “like no other” experience at this charming boutique hotel.

Every stay is a unique experience

With 38 rooms each with unique décor, an artistic surprise surely awaits you. They have 4 types of rooms: Big (36sqm), Large (42sqm), X-Large (72 sqm) and XX-Large (108sqm).

I was able to stay at their smallest type of room ironically called the big room. Laughs. At Php7,500 per night good for 2 persons, it already comes with a free breakfast buffet at Rica’s Restaurant. This also includes two complimentary bottled water, use of the pool facilities, WIFI access and a parking slot.

Riding the elevator with a keycard security feature up to the fifth floor, I pass through the concrete and artistic hallways until I reach room 508 and enter it keyless.

What I love about this room was its unfinished look and hidden artistic clues, its blue green color palette that’s very easy on the eyes, its chessboard-inspired optical illusion restroom with toiletries, its funny little notes and puns on its services, its locally sourced bed frame and recycle trash bins, its standard amenities such as its mini-refrigerator, cable TV and safety deposit box, its working space with stable WIFI, its view of Talamban and that you can literally sleep all day because the sun doesn’t pierce through the bed until afternoon.

What I love about their buffet is that you can choose to dine by the pool especially for us in-house guests. Their breakfast is also available for walk-ins at approximately Php435 per person.

Artistic utopia

A mix of European, vintage, industrial and rustic vibe radiates from The Henry Hotel’s interior from its lobby up to every nook and cranny be it the restroom, the pool, the hallways and even their parking areas.

Art everywhere

You’ll surely see pop culture icons on the walls such as Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Che Guevarra and other personalities.

Artistic assemblage

The King of Sinulog’s favorite though is the Berlin Wall Graffiti impression on their stairs, the old school beetle on the second floor and also the fact that the entire building was painted black which surely sparks the passersby’s curiosity.

The Exclusive Reading Room

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax. This is the quote plastered inside the Reading Room filled with fun board games, a private library and an iMac available only for guests occupying the X-Large and bigger rooms. However, other in-house guests can also use this with a fee of about Php 500.

Friendly and accommodating staff

To tell you frankly, I am quite a spoiled guest, always demanding this and that. Despite all these, the team at The Henry was courteous, helpful and very professional with their geek-inspired serious look outfit. Check in and check out was quick and hassle-free. Security was very attentive. Front desk was responsive to my inquiries. Rica’s staff was helpful and all smiles. My special thanks go to Brandon for his assistance, Stef for giving me a fun and quirky tour of the hotel and to Miss Leslie for her valuable time despite being away on the weekend.
