At 3:00 PM today, the eye of TYPHOON “HANNA” {LEKIMA} was located based on all available data at°505 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes (23.7°N, 125.4°E) with maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 230 km/h. It is moving North°Northwest at°20 km/h. Meanwhile, the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated based on all available data at 105°km West of°Sinait, Ilocos Sur°(17.7°N, 119.4°E). Southwest Monsoon affecting the whole country.

TYPHOON HANNA HAS GAINED MORE STRENGTH AND IS NOW IN THE VICINITY OF SOUTHERN RYUKYU ISLANDS.

  • “HANNA” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between 11:30 PM tonight and 2:00 AM tomorrow.
  • The outer rainbands of “HANNA” and the Southwest Monsoon will bring light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains and gusty winds over Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands tonight and tomorrow (09 August).
  • Tonight until tomorrow evening, moderate to heavy monsoon rains will be experienced over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro and northern portions of Palawan (including Calamian Islands). Light to moderate with intermittent heavy monsoon rains will prevail over Metro Manila, Western Visayas, CALABARZON, and the rest of Central Luzon and MIMAROPA.
  • Tomorrow evening and Saturday (10 August) evening, light to moderate with intermittent heavy monsoon rains may affect Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, and Bataan.
  • Residents in the aforementioned areas, especially those living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to floods and rain-induced landslides, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the Thunderstorm Advisories and Heavy Rainfall Warnings to be issued by PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.
  • Gusty conditions will continue over most of Luzon and Visayas due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.
  • Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas and the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao due to potentially rough seas.
  • At 10:00 PM today, Typhoon “KROSA” was estimated based on all available data at 1,950 km East of Extreme Northern Luzon (21.9°N, 140.7°E) with maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 190 km/h. It is almost stationary and is not expected to enter the PAR.

At 10:00 PM today, the eye of Typhoon “HANNA” was located based on all available data at 550 km North Northeast of Basco, Batanes (24.6 °N, 124.9 °E )

Department of Education (DepEd) Class Suspension Guideline:

  • DepEd Calls on parents to determine whether their children should go to school during typhoons, floods and other calamities in the absence of official announcements from DepEd.
  • In the absence of storm signal warnings, LGU are expected to announce whole day class cancellations not later than 4:30AM or half-day class suspensions not later than 11:00AM.
  • Storm signal warning declared by PAGASA between 10:00pm and 4:30AM reflect the whole day cancellation of classes in appropriate levels in the affected areas.
  • Storm signal warnings declared by PAGASA by 11:00AM automatically suspend the same day’s afternoon classes in appropriate levels in the affected areas.

*Suspension of classes for the tertiary level (colleges and universities) will be at the discretion of school management.
