Discover Coron via Discovery Fleet Cruise
Calm, bluish-green water enclosed in islands with large granite rock formations – this image flashes in my head whenever I think about Coron. More than its beguiling scenery, what makes Coron standout are the various reef and wreck dive sites around it. This once unexplored place has now become a must-see destination particularly for lovers of the sea and its underwater wonders.

A two-day trip to Coron and its islands is part of M/V Discovery Fleet Dive Cruise Palawan’s itinerary. This made it all the more exciting as I finally got to see its beauty by cruising. Discovery Palawan offers both divers and non-divers exhilarating ways to admire Coron’s underwater world. The former group got to dive some of the best shipwrecks and reef dive sites while the latter group trekked to Kayangan Lake and snorkeled all day.

It was a pleasant day for a hike. Our group, led by Kuya Joel, Kuya Ponce and the rest of the boat men, climbed our way to the top of a cave and went down a slope that leads to a peaceful lake with green, unclouded waters. A familiar, picturesque view of that bluish-green water surrounded by rock formations greeted us upon reaching the cave. This particular scene was made famous by several internet sites, blogs and magazines. This was the image my mind paints every time I hear or think about Coron – one of the many breathtaking postcard views I’ve seen. But that was just the beginning of it.

Down we went to Kayangan Lake, considered as the cleanest lake in Asia. Whoever dares to oppose this might have some serious eye problems. The lake, with its clear green waters nestled in a cluster of mountain walls, can get really tempting even for someone who isn’t fond of swimming. A world of intriguing and enchanting rock formations underneath welcomed me as I started to snorkel my way toward the other end.

Another spot that’s not to be missed is Siete Pecados, one of the most well-known snorkelling destinations in Coron. The sun’s heat was at its might when our boat halted somewhere in the area. Off we went to snorkel. It was a delight to see rich marine life close to you as the waters in Siete Pecados can be shallow. In fact, some parts are so shallow that I slightly felt scared after seeing a bunch of sea urchins so near me. One wrong move and I could get pierced.

I had too much dose of vitamin sea after all those snorkelling and swimming activities. Coron has surpassed my expectations of paradise. It is a place beyond words, beyond beauty.
