Travel Gadgets: Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ officially launches in the Philippines
Time to break the piggy bank, folks. The new flagship Samsung Galaxy phones are officially here in the Islands. The country’s population is dubbed by two international agencies (Hootsuite and United Kingdom-based consultancy We Are Social Ltd) as “most time spent on social media”, which just means that we love our smartphones.

The average Filipino changes smartphones yearly (some every half year, or quarter), and so, here’s another reason to break the bank – the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ is here.
The official unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ happened at the swanky ballroom of the newly opened Grand Hyatt Manila in BGC, Taguig. For the uninitiated, it’s that tall building crowned with a golden spire in the Metro skyline; it’s easily seen along C5 or in EDSA, near Makati.
The banner feature of the new smartphone is its camera, which is equipped with a Super Speed Dual Pixel 12MP rear camera with autofocus (AF) sensor and optical image stability (OIS). What that means, in layman’s terms, is that these phones take pretty damn good photos – a must for the selfie-loving, IG story obsessed Filipinos.

The Galaxy S9+, however, takes it up a notch with an additional Telephoto 12MP rear camera with AF sensor. Both units feature an 8MP AF front camera (F1.7), and their rear cameras possess Dual Aperture (F1.5/F2.4). With these enhancements, the camera adapts like the human eye, adjusting to super low or bright lighting conditions with ease, according to Samsung.
After the excellent dinner served by Hyatt’s kitchens, Solenn Heussaff and Georgina Wilson took charge of the media launch at the Grand Hyatt Manila. The dynamic duo regaled the more than 400 media guests and Samsung dealers and partners with their stories using the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+.
Product presentations then ensued. Ivan Pua, Product Marketing Head for IT and Mobile, Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation and Lea Cua, Product Marketing Manager for Flagship Smartphones, Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation both demonstrated live on stage the new features of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+: the Super Slow-Mo, AR Emoji, and best-in-class low light camera features.

After the perfunctory toasts and well-wishes by the celebrities and the Samsung representatives, the group then unveiled the Experiential Zones, where guests got to try out the latest addition to the S Series. The two phones will officially enter the market on March 16, 2018.
Without going to the extremely geeky details regarding the specs of the phone, let me just say that it is the best-in-class android smartphone out there to date. However, with the exponential growth of technology today, that statement might not be true in the coming months ahead.
The phone also comes in a cool, chic Lilac Purple color, which I kinda liked. For the mundane choice, they have the Midnight Black and Coral Blue.

“Today’s smartphones are more than just for taking pictures — we rely on them for communication and self-expression,” shared Jerry Manus, Business Unit Head for IT and Mobile, Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation during his opening remarks at the event. “With the Galaxy S9 and S9+, we have reimagined the whole camera experience. Not only does it help you take gorgeous photos and videos, but it also allows you to connect and express yourself in the most creative and personal way possible.”

The launch celebration ended on a high note with Ely Buendia performing some of his most notable and new hits on-stage.
