How to apply for a Visa to Myanmar in Manila

Myanmar, formerly known as Burma is a place where you can find interesting tourist attractions. The country has numerous temples as far as the eyes can see, the alluring lakes, and the grandeur of Shwedagon pagoda, which makes it, a must visit place.

A visit to Burma requires careful planning and a prior research are required as the country is changing in a rapid pace. Applying for a visa is the first and foremost thing to be done while planning to visit a country. A visa is mandatory to enter Myanmar even for Filipinos who are citizens of a member country of ASEAN. Myanmar currently offers visa on arrival for Business Travelers but getting a Visa is not a difficult affair for Philippine nationals.

Documents required for obtaining a Myanmar Visa
The Myanmar Embassy is located in Makati City and one need the following documents to obtain a Visa from the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

  • A valid passport
  • 2 passport size photos
  • Photocopy of passport
  • Soft copy of photos
  • A waiver that is signed stating that the applicant will not publish anything against the Government of Myanmar.

The Government of Myanmar is cautious about the people working in media and also the journalists. Hence a signed waiver becomes essential. There are also chances that if the company name of the applicant has the word “media” attached to it or if the applicant is a journalist his/her application may get rejected. For a business visa, the application procedure is:

  • Two copies of filled application for business/entry visa and a copy of report on arrival form. Each set of application should be duly signed by the applicant.
  • 2 request letters of a business visa application
  • A sponsorship letter stating the business profile briefly

An applicant should apply for the Visa personally. The embassy building is located just opposite to Makati Cinema Square. If you dont have a passport photo yet, A Kodak Studio is located inside Makati Cinema Square and the people there know the requirements of the embassy well, and it is easy to get a photo done at a cost of Php 78.

The scanned photograph should have the dimension 300 dpi in JPG format. The soft copy of the photograph should be given in a CD. Spouse of a Myanmar national, children of a foreigner and a Myanmar national, and people who have surrendered their Myanmar citizenship is eligible for a social visit visa. Any false statements made during the time of applying for the visa would result in refusal/cancellation of the visa.

Visa Application fee
The visa application fee is US $25 or Php 1,100. The cost incurred is comparatively less than that required for visa on arrival. The cost for visa on arrival is US$30. Processing of visa takes 3 working days. The Myanmar visa has validity of 3 months and 28 days upon arrival in the country.
