Palawan’s premiere ecotourism destination, Arena Island, invites ecotourists to have a more memorable Earth Hour celebration in the private island resort.

Said Roland Rodriguez, owner of Arena Island, “We at Arena Island are one with the world in observing the Earth Hour. We believe that it is imperative for everyone to take part in conserving energy and reducing carbon footprint in this planet.”

This year, Arena Island goes “Dark and Green” for the Earth Hour observation on March 23, 2013 starting 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The exclusive resort will treat its guests to a candlelit dinner on a sandbar featuring a menu made especially for the date of their stay for a more personalized experience. Eco inspired as well, the Earth Day menu aims to encourage guests to reduce their carbon footprint by switching to a healthier diet and lifestyle while basking in the privacy of the island. Some of the dishes include an island-made mixed tempura, ampalaya (bitter gourd) con creamé, seafood chowder, spicy sand lobster and eggplant salad among others.

And if the guests will be lucky enough, they might just witness a Philippine sea turtle (pawikan) laying eggs on the sand. The mother pawikan actually prefers a darker environment to protect her eggs, which makes the act of switching off lights beneficial to her. Staying guests might just be able to witness this rare event in the island that is a sanctuary to pawikans and other marine creatures.

Last year, Arena Island prepared for its guests’ romantic Earth Hour inspired candlelit dinner at their casitas’ verandas where the guests not only partook of their sumptuous dinner but also enjoyed gazing at the wonderful night sky through the island’s refracting telescope.

Arena Island is a four-hectare paradise situated in the South Central Sulu Sea, Narra, Palawan. The island is accessible via Puerto Princesa airport, followed by a two-hour land and boat travel. Surrounded by pristine waters, white sand beach, and lush landscapes, Filipino inspired pavilions welcome guests upon reaching the island. Arena Island is the perfect destination for relaxation and rejuvenation. Make it a choice for your private escape or a perfect getaway with your loved ones. For more information, please visit
