Aliwan Fiesta 2009 Schedule of Activities

Once again, Best of the Best Philippine Festival Street dancers are joining Aliwan Fiesta 2009 which will be held on April 23-25 in CCP Complex Manila. Several local government units are expected to send their delegation and showcase their own festival in the upcoming grandest celebration of Festivals in the country.

Aliwan Festival will feature competitions in Streetdance, float design and the beauty pageant called Reyna ng Aliwan 2009. Photograpers will also get a chance to join the yealy Aliwan Photo Competition.

The Aliwan Fiesta is an annual project of Manila Broadcasting Company with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, in cooperation with the Cities of Manila and Pasay.

According to the organizers, some of the confirmed contingents are

  • Tondo’s LAKBAYAW festival
  • Maguindanao’s BUKLOD and KALILINTAD festivals
  • Masbate’s LAPAY BANTIGUE Dance Festival
  • Leyte’s KARATONG and BUYOGAN festivals
  • Pampanga’s IBON EBON and CARAGAN festivals
  • Ilocos Norte’s PAMULINAWEN festival
  • General Santos City’s KALILANGAN festival
  • Albay’s PULANG-ANGUI festival
  • Quezon’s BOLING-BOLING festival
  • Batangas’ FIESTA DE TOROS
  • Sorsogon’s KASANGGAYAHAN festival
  • Iloilo’s DINAGYANG
  • Cebu’s SINULOG

Another interesting activity will be the Liwanag Candle-Carving competition which will attract candle carvers to participate. Three-time grand champion Lumad Basakanon representing Cebu’s Sinulog, will be elevated to the Hall of Fame.

  • – One Town, One Product Shoppers Bazaar
  • – Band Concert and Pasakalye (Aliw Theater outdoor stage – 7:00 p.m.)

April 24

  • – One Town, One Product Shoppers Bazaar
  • – Aliwan Festival Queen Talent Competition (Star Theater, 1:30 p.m.)
  • – Aliwan Festival Queen Pageant Night (Aliw Theater outdoor stage – 7:00 p.m.)

April 25

  • – One Town, One Product Shoppers Bazaar
  • – Grand Parade (Aliw Theater Complex to Quirino Grandstand – 4:00 p.m.)
  • – Awarding Ceremonies (Quirino Grandstand – 9:00 p.m.)

I was not able to witness last years Aliwan but I will definitely cover this years event.
