AirAsia Philippines advises guests to comply with new cabin policy on power bank use.
AirAsia Philippines is intensifying its dedication to upholding global aviation safety standards by rigorously implementing the latest guidelines established by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). This initiative emphasizes the careful regulation of portable electronic devices, particularly focusing on power banks, ensuring that the safety of all passengers remains a top priority during their journeys.

In the CAAP’s Advisory Circular No. 18-005, the use of power banks during flights is unequivocally prohibited, stemming from significant safety concerns linked to lithium-ion batteries. These batteries, commonly found in portable charging devices, pose potential hazards, including the risk of overheating, fire, or even explosion. The circular emphasizes the importance of prioritizing passenger safety and the integrity of the aircraft by eliminating the possibility of such risks onboard.
AirAsia Philippines has introduced a new policy that permits passengers to bring aboard a maximum of two power banks. Each power bank must not exceed a capacity of 100 watt-hours (Wh), ensuring a safe and convenient travel experience for all.
Power banks must not be stowed away in overhead compartments, as this can pose safety risks. Instead, passengers are advised to keep their power banks securely with their personal belongings, either tucked under the seat in front of them or carefully placed in the seat pocket. Furthermore, please be aware that the use of power banks during the flight is strictly prohibited to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for all.
“While we understand that power banks are now part of travel essentials for our guests, safety always comes first at AirAsia. We highly encourage our guests to charge their electronic devices prior to boarding and ensure maximum compliance that is enforced by our highly trained on ground and inflight crew,” AirAsia Philippines Communications and Public Affairs Head, First Officer Steve Dailisan shares.
AirAsia Philippines will ensure that all guests are clearly informed of this policy prior to boarding. Passengers who are caught using power banks during the flight will first receive a warning. Should they continue to disregard the guidelines, the device will be confiscated for safety reasons and safely returned to the owner upon landing.
