With a name that means “sunshine” in Greek, Azia Suites and Residences (reviews) offers warm Filipino hospitality through their thoughtful customer service, freshly cooked culinary delights, homey ambiance and custom-made tours that would surely radiate the beauty of the Queen City of the South.
From Mactan Cebu International Airport, you can hail a white taxi cab and tell the driver to take you to Azia Suites (book online) located at 8 Rahmann Extension and pay about PHP250 for an hour drive. The white, blue and gray 10-storey hotel is situated on a side street and is relatively close to University of San Carlos North Campus and Lighthouse Restaurant.
Entering the glass doors, I was greeted with beaming smiles. At first glance, you’ll notice that the parking area is on the same level as the reception area. Sitting down to a quirky purple chair, I put my heavy bag aside while waiting for my turn. Looking around, an abstract painting is plastered behind the reception while right across me is a handcrafted lounge with a game of ‘sungka’ as centerpiece. After a few seconds, I was off to my room after signing the registration form and asked for identification.
The ten-storey hotel has a total of 60 well-appointed guestrooms that includes 55 Standard Rooms, four Family Suites and a Bridal Suite as well as two modern function rooms that can cater well for an event of 30 to a hundred seats.
Hopping off the elevator on the 8th floor, you’ll immediately see your reflection on a sun-shaped mirror. Walking a few steps, you need to tap in your key to a divider before you can use the hallway to your room, an added security detail. Entering my standard room, you’ll see the local touches on its furniture and lamps. You’ll also appreciate the space it offers knowing that it’s published rate is PHP2,200 good for two persons with breakfast. The bed, pillows and sheets are of good quality. However, in my personal view, the size of the bed is not enough to accommodate two people. The room also provides a good view of Gorordo Avenue and General Maxilom Avenue.
The room is also complete with standard amenities such as a personal working space, mini-refrigerator, telephone, coffee set, cabinets and hangers, outlets with USB charging ports and a 22-inch LED Cable TV capable of playing movies from your flash drive. The bathroom is also equipped with sink, toilet and adjustable shower heads with hand and body towels and toiletries such as soap, shampoo and toothbrush.
Located on the 9th floor, you’ll enjoy the beautiful cityscape view Platela Grill offers. The restaurant boasts of fresh seafoods cooked the Filipino way. This is also where they serve their guests’ complimentary breakfast. Since I’m a heavy breakfast eater, I tried their Filipino and American breakfast offerings. I had Spanish sardines, two sunny-side up eggs and rice with brewed coffee and also strawberry pancakes with fresh fruits. A typical meal for two would cost around PHP600.
At the time of my stay, the team at Azia Suites were very approachable, courteous and prompt at accommodating my inquiries and requests from the front desk support up to the restaurant staff.
Overall, if you’re looking for a strategically-located, eco-friendly and fully-furnished hotel that offers warm Filipino hospitality at affordable prices, then Azia Suites and Residences (discounted rates) is perfect for you.
