Aliwan Fiesta harnesses the power of Philippine festivals to showcase how religion, culture, and tradition are woven into the fiber of our existence. The Aliwan Fiesta started way back in 2003, when the 7,107 islands of the Philippines gathered in a parade of festivities. This year, Aliwan Fiesta 2016 will be held on Sotto Street, Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex, Pasay from April 14 to April 16, 2016.

On the first day of the event, April 14, 2016, the Tugtog ng Aliwan or Festival Music Showdown will be held on 6 pm at Sotto Street, CCP Complex, Pasay. Official musicians of the participants taking part in the festival dance competition will present a medley comprised of one song endemic to the area or region they represent, mashed with their own arrangement of the hit “Nae Nae” by Silento.

Another highlight of Aliwan Fiesta 2016 is the Shopper’s Bazaar for those who are looking for local handicrafts or souvenirs. The Shopper’s Bazaar will be open the whole day for everyone. No need to hurry too, because the Shopper’s Bazaar will run from April 14 to April 16 at Sotto Street, CCP Complex, Pasay.

And the main event of Aliwan Fiesta 2016 is the Float Parade and Streetdance Competition which will be on April 16. The Santo Niño Fluvial Float of Samar dominated last year’s Float Parade. What festival will reign in this year’s Float Design competition? There are so many festivals to choose from but definitely, how they will be presented is something to look forward to this years Aliwan Fiesta.

On the other hand, the Streetdance Competition is also exciting. It will be an opportunity for some people, who cannot or were not able to attend the festival in the place of origin, to experience the various cultural and religious festivals in the Philippines. Manaragat Festival, Sinulog Festival, Halad Festival, and many more festivals will be showcased on April 16.

The Aliwan Fiesta 2016 Float Parade and Aliwan Streetdance Competition will start at 4 pm at the Quirino Grandstand and travel along Roxas Boulevard. At 6 pm, the Culminating Showdown will commence at Sotto Street, CCP Complex, Pasay where each participant will perform their respective festival for a period of six minutes. When all the festivals have been performed, the Awarding Ceremonies will be held right after at 9 pm.
