World Yoga Day Celebration in Echague, Isabela
Echague, ISABELA—In celebration of World Yoga Day, the basic postures and the holistic benefits of Yoga were presented on Wednesday, June 21, at the Municipal Grounds in Echague, Isabela. A thousand participants from students, teachers, media, police, firemen, government workers, and the private sector took part in a mass yoga session to mark the International Yoga Day.

Yoga, a Hindu spiritual discipline meaning “unification,” was organized by the Office of the Mayor Francis Dy of the municipality of Echague, province of Isabela in cooperation with Echague Office of Culture and Tourism, Department of Education, Isabela State University and Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha. The event emphasized the exceptional benefits gained from the most basic teaching of yoga.
Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha, an international socio-spiritual organization, led the presentation of the basic yoga postures or popularly known as “asanas.”

“Yoga is the union of the inner soul with the universal spirit, in other words, a unification. The Indian body of knowledge is widely practiced in the world. Many think yoga is only a physical exercise including proper breathing and specific body postures, however, yoga unfolds infinite happiness for the human mind and soul. As a result, yoga imbibes complete relaxation of the physical body and spiritual soul,” said Ananda Marga Monk, Dada Jitendra.
Other yoga postures presented were Child’s Pose or Balasana, Downward Facing Dog or Adho Mukha Svanasana, Upward Facing Dog or Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, Warrior 1 or Virabhadrasana I, Warrior II or Virabhadrasana II, Triangle Pose or Trikonasana, Chair Pose or Utkatasana, Wide-Legged Forward Fold or Prasarita Padottanasana, Cobra Pose or Bhujaungasana, Lotus Pose or Siddhasana, Hare Pose or Shasaungasana, Long Salutation or Diirgha Pranam, Arm and Leg Posture or Padahastana and some classic Vinyasa postures.

“Yoga brings countless benefits for the physical, mental and spiritual being. For the physical benefit, it is an exercise including proper breathing and specific body postures. Thus, it not just cures diseases, it also prevents diseases. For the mental benefit, it helps you meditate; it helps in your concentration. For the spiritual benefit, it unfolds infinite happiness for the human mind and soul,” said Ananda Marga Monk, Dada Jitendra.
The World Yoga Day is yearly celebrated every 21st of June to embody the unity of mind and soul. Moreover, it is showed to treasure the invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition.
