Cebu Pacific Goes Green with Use of Eco-friendly Utensils for all Their Flight

(Manila, Philippines) – Starting October 1, 2018; the Philippines leading carrier Cebu Pacific is implementing the use of sustainable alternatives for its plastic spoons, forks, stirrers, and cups on all its domestic and international flights. Their subsidiary Cebgo is also joining in the bandwagon. They aim to practice sustainability and minimize inflight waste.

Cebu Pacific has about 400 flights daily in 37 domestic and 26 international destinations with plastic consumption of about 18,500 pieces daily. The airline company serves millions of people each year that’s why this is such a big move not only for their company but for benefitting the environment.

Lance Gokongwei, President, and CEO of Cebu Pacific is spearheading the advocacy to help the environment by reducing their plastic waste to “only what’s necessary” while committing to accessible, affordable and available flights for everyone.

Their current plastic spoon and fork will be replaced with polylactic acid (PLA) cutlery made from corn starch. It’s a bio-compostable and renewable resource. The PLA spoon and fork have the same look of a plastic spoon and fork but once you finish using it, it will turn into a harmless biomass or organic matter. Biodegradable paper cups will be used instead of plastic cups and compostable wood stirrers will take the place of plastic stirrers.

The company states that they are continually studying how else they can help the environment through fuel-efficient aircraft and state-of-the-art technology that maximize flight efficiency which makes way for reduced fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Cebu Pacific is dedicated to helping the environment and practice sustainability in all their flights.

This shift from plastic products to eco-friendly ones is one of the latest endeavors of the airline company to help save the environment. Before that, they have been investing in technologies that reduce carbon emissions and how they can optimize their flights in the most sustainable way.
