AirAsia Wins World’s Best Low-Cost Airline Award Again at 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards
AirAsia has once again been named the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline, securing the title for the 17th consecutive year at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards.

AirAsia Named World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for 17th Consecutive Year
The latest recognition comes as AirAsia celebrates its 25th anniversary, marking more than two decades of providing affordable air travel and expanding its network across Asia and beyond.
The award was presented in London on September 18, 2026, with Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, AirAsia Co-Founder, accepting the honor on behalf of the airline.
The Skytrax World Airline Awards are widely regarded as one of the major passenger-driven awards in the aviation industry. The results come from the annual World Airline Survey, which collects feedback and votes from travelers worldwide.
A Milestone Award During AirAsia’s 25th Anniversary
For AirAsia, the 2026 award carries added significance because it coincides with the airline’s 25th year of operations.
AirAsia began with a mission to make air travel accessible to more people. Over the years, it expanded from a single low-cost airline into a broader low-cost network serving destinations across Asia and other markets.
Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said the recognition reflects the continued trust of travelers who have flown with the airline throughout its 25-year journey.
He also highlighted the significance of seeing AirAsia continue to receive passenger recognition after two and a half decades in the aviation industry.
Recognition Comes From Travelers
The Skytrax World Airline Awards differ from industry awards in that they are not based solely on judging panels or airline submissions. The rankings are based on passenger feedback collected through the independent World Airline Survey.
Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted congratulated AirAsia on achieving the award for the 17th time. He said the result reflects the airline’s focus on providing affordable travel options in an increasingly competitive low-cost airline market.
According to Skytrax, airlines do not pay entry or registration fees to participate in the survey.
AirAsia Continues to Expand Across Asia
AirAsia has continued to develop its network over the past 25 years, connecting millions of passengers with destinations across Southeast Asia and beyond.
The airline has also evolved its products and travel experience as the low-cost aviation sector has become increasingly competitive.
Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Group, described the award as a vote of confidence from passengers. He also credited AirAsia’s employees, known within the company as Allstars, for maintaining the airline’s operations amid challenges facing the aviation industry.
The group continues to focus on expanding connectivity across ASEAN and other international markets.
What the Award Means for Travelers
For travelers, particularly those seeking affordable ways to explore Asia, AirAsia’s latest Skytrax recognition underscores the airline’s longstanding position in the low-cost aviation sector.
The airline operates an extensive network serving leisure and business destinations, giving travelers more options for regional trips and international journeys.
For Filipino travelers, AirAsia’s regional network also provides access to numerous destinations around Asia, depending on current routes and schedules from Philippine gateways.
As AirAsia enters its next chapter, its 17th consecutive World’s Best Low-Cost Airline title adds another milestone to the carrier’s 25-year history.
