White Island in Camiguin
Camiguin Island is synonymous to mystical volcanoes, dense rainforests, abundant crops, rich marina, coral-fringed coast, and virgin white islands, namely Mantigue and the White Island.
Unlike the sparkling white beach around the thick shrubbery of Mantigue Island, the White Island has no hint of vegetation on it, save for the slight grass bed on its surrounding reef.
Being a vast sandbar, the White Island appears to be a mystical land created from the lush corals on which it sits on. It constantly changes shape according to the wind direction and the tide, sometimes resembling the letter C, or E, or F.
The Awe of the White Island
The White Island, as beautiful as it is, surely promises awesome adventures.
But even at the boat ride from the mainland, one already feels in awe of simply being there, as foliage of tropical trees covering smoky hills and mountains become clear, bequeathing dramatic tones along mountain crests and tops.
Less than ten minutes later, the whole White Island looms; sparked by miniscule pieces of corals, enticing every visitor to wallow in its natural glory.
It used to be that the guests are shun away due the painful heat of the high noon, but now guests could stay on the island the whole day with the aid of tents put up by temporary sari-sari stores and by the availability of tents for rent at 200php.
And as daylight ends, the spectacular view of the sunset makes for its dramatic descent, shining as a glaring yellow ball that blends into deep crimson.
Treasures of Health
Walking barefoot on the coral-coarse white sand gives wonderful benefits to the health. It grants foot reflexology, as the pressure points on the feet’s soles touches the sand, thereby inducing a healthy flow in the nerves. It also sheds those soles’ hardened skin.
Swimming, on the other hand is best done with a snorkeling gear, as it makes it efficiently fun to commune with the abundant fish all around.
As an island patched with flat coral white sand, it becomes an idyllic place to practice yoga, Qi Gong, and Tai Chi, as well as a space to run on non-stop for an hour.
Lying on the sand and getting a sparkling bronze look out of the sun is a simple and definite attraction for everyone. A sunscreen with SPF 45 is a must to protect the skin from harmful UV rays.
And with the wind blowing unperturbed, kiteboarders get to have a fun, fulfilling and intimate session with the wind.
When visiting with young children, there are countless nooks for them to bask and swim in freely. There are those along the coral beds to take a dip in shallow waters, some along the reef and some patches of sand around. Best to apply virgin coconut oil of their body to protect their pores from the continuous wind.
Getting to White Island
Ride on a motorela (minimum of 8php per person) or a habal-habal (motorcycle) to Paras Beach where the tourism registration and boats traveling to White Island are lined up.
