The King of Sinulog is off to Azabu located at JY Square Prestigio in Gorordo, a Japanese restaurant named after a prominent district in Japan with a vibrant setting that serves authentic cuisine from Osaka and Tokyo. Read on as I share to you what this establishment as in store for you.
Getting there
Assuming you’re already in Cebu City, tell the driver to take you to the strip mall right across JY Square Mall in Lahug. Azabu is located on the 3rd unit of the building with its white brand logo and black background with exterior glass walls. The restaurant is also surrounded by various establishments such as banks and pharmacies. There are also public utility jeepneys (04C, 17C, 17B, 04L) plying this route.
Arrival

There won’t be a problem if you decide to bring your car with you since there’s ample parking space that could accommodate about 20 vehicles right outside. Entering the establishment at about 6PM, we were ushered in by the staff and greeted in Japanese.
Ambiance

The place looked modern and very exclusive perfect for business dinners and family celebrations. Upon entering, you’ll see the sushi and teppanyaki kitchen where chefs demonstrate the art of preparing Japanese cuisine. The wide space is subdivided into Japanese-inspired dining areas populated with contemporary tables and chairs with paintings plastered on walls. The same goes upstairs with its own separate wine bar and restroom.
Food
Looking at their extensive menu, we decided to try out their bento meals. The Sushi Bento consisted of Nigiri Sushi and an assortment of fresh fish slices, the Tempura Bento with King Prawns and vegetable tempura, the Tori Teriyaki Bento with grilled chicken thigh fillet with traditional teriyaki sauce while the Karaage Bento consisted of deep-fried chicken fillet.

When our orders arrived, our expectations were more than met given their generous serving sizes. Everything was thoughtfully prepared with its desired taste. Not only that, we didn’t expect that the meal came with free appetizers, mixed greens, soup, unlimited hot tea plus a coffee jelly dessert for that matter.
Price
We paid a total of PHP1,950 for the four bento meals. Seeing their extensive menu, a typical meal for two would cost around PHP1,000. If you’d ask me price value wise, thought it was quite expensive, you still get your money’s worth with the total experience and good service.
Service
Though on a weekend, the service was great. When we needed something like refills, the staffs in kimono attire were easily reachable and very accommodating. The chefs were also very passionate during their cooking demonstration. The owner of the establishment was very hands-on as well.

Overall, if you’re looking for a culinary voyage in a vibrant and modern setting where flavors are true, unmasked and authentic then Azabu is perfect for you. Later!
