Walang Pasok: Palace declares Aug. 12, 2019, a regular holiday for Eid al-Adha
Manila, Philippines – The Malacañang Palace officially declared Monday, August 12, a regular holiday for Eid al-Adha 2019 (Feast of Sacrifice). The regular holiday announcement means that we will have a long weekend starting from August 10 (Saturday) to August 12 (Monday).
As previously stated in our 2019 Philippine Holidays blogpost, the Office of the President will be announcing the official date of the celebration based on the advice coming from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).
Eid al-Adha is “one of the two greatest feasts of Islam” and based on Republic Act 9849, this Islamic holiday should be observed as a regular holiday.
Eid al-Adha also called the “Festival of the Sacrifice”, is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year, and considered the holier than Eid al-Fitr. Eid al-Adha is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim (also known as Abraham) to follow Allah’s (God’s) command to sacrifice his son. Muslims around the world observe this event.
During Eid al-Adha, distributing meat (sheep, goat, camel, or cow) amongst the people, chanting the takbir out loud before the Eid prayers on the first day and after prayers throughout the three days of Eid, are considered essential parts of this important Islamic festival.
Compensation for National Regular Holidays
a. If it is an employee’s regular workday
- If unworked, an employee shall be paid 100% of his/her daily rate – (Daily Rate x 100%)
- If worked, an employee shall be paid 200% of his/her daily rate for the 8 hours – (Daily Rate x 200%)
- Excess of 8 hours – plus 30% of hourly rate on said day
b. If it is an employee rest day
- If unworked – 100%
- If worked – 1st 8 hours – plus 30% of 200%
- Excess of 8 hours – plus 30% of hourly rate on said day
