How to get to Batad Rice Terraces

Batad Rice Terraces
Batad Rice Terraces, one of the five clusters of the world-famous rice terraces that are inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995, is located in a village of Banaue. Surrounded by immense rice terraces scaling from top to bottom of the mountain ranges, it resembles a gigantic amphitheater, which served as the identity of this rice terraces among others.
This is a famous side trip to many local and international tourists when visiting Banaue. It is dubbed as the most magnificent of all the rice terraces in Ifugao and it takes more effort to climb up the hill to witness this remarkable man-made wonder that carved the history and culture of the Ifugao.
How to get to Batad from Manila
Manila – Banaue
If you’re traveling from Manila, you can take the 10:45 pm Autobus trip at 445 St. Loyola cor. F. Coyco Sts, Sampaloc, Manila. Usually, there is only one bus that is assigned to go to Banaue, however, there are special trips that are mounted during the peak season to accommodate the passenger volume.
Also, you can take Ohayami Transit along Lacson Avenue, in the corner of Fajardo Street, Sampaloc, Manila. They have 9 pm and 10 pm trips daily. Fare ranges from P450 – 500, and it best to do an early reservation via their website or directly visiting their terminal.
If you happen to miss the bus that has a direct trip to Banaue, you can take a trip to Baguio and just take a connecting trip to any point in Banaue.

If you are to use your personal car, take the Tagudin-Cervantes, Bontoc Road, then to Banaue.
Baguio – Banaue
Ohayami Transit also has Baguio – Banaue route. It is located at the bus station in Otek Street near Burnham Park. They have daily trips at night. KMS Bus Lines has two trips daily and is also located on the same bus station.
Upon reaching Banaue, Batad can be reached by a 10-km jeepney ride from the town center to the saddle and about a 30-minute hike through mountain trails.
Batad Travel Tips
- All rice terraces are usually best viewed on the months of April and May when the fields are at their greenest, and the months of August and September when the fields are golden brown.
- September is usually the harvest season where tourists can witness and join in the harvest.
- Always bring your jacket going to the Banaue as you will experience moderate to extreme drop of temperature.
- Guide Fees range from P1,000 – 1,500.
- No ATMs available so best to bring enough cash.
- Mobile signal is limited and sporadic in some areas.
