Key points to remember:

Cashless transactions only:

Effective immediately, all toll payments on Luzon expressways will be conducted exclusively through RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems. This change aims to streamline the toll collection process and reduce vehicle congestion at toll booths. It is essential for all motorists to ensure that their vehicles are equipped with a valid RFID sticker, which can be purchased and installed at designated loading stations or dealerships. Please check that your RFID sticker is activated and has sufficient balance before your trip to avoid any delays. Stay up to date on any guidelines or updates regarding the RFID system for a smooth driving experience.

Vehicle class matters:

Toll fees are determined by the specific class of your vehicle, which influences the amount charged for using toll roads. Generally, vehicles are categorized as follows: Class 1 includes standard passenger vehicles, such as cars and motorcycles; Class 2 encompasses larger vehicles, like buses and vans designed for passenger transport; and Class 3 applies to heavy trucks and commercial vehicles that significantly impact road maintenance due to their weight and size.

Understanding these classifications is essential, as it ensures that drivers are aware of the fees applicable to their vehicles, ultimately facilitating smoother travel and fair toll collection.

Here is the list of the most recent toll gate fees you should know, whether you’re traveling north or south.

Vehicle Classifications for Tollways

The vehicle’s classification is used to calculate toll fees.

Class 1

These are vehicles with a maximum height of 7.5 feet and two axles. These include sedans, vans, pickup trucks, and motorcycles.

Class 2

These vehicles have two axles but are taller than 7.5 feet. This class of vehicles includes large vehicles like buses and trucks. If you have a Class 1 vehicle and want to tow a trailer, your vehicle will be classified as Class 2.

Class 3

Large trucks with at least six wheels and a height of more than 7.5 feet belong in this class. You don’t need to worry about this class unless you work in the courier or transportation industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the toll on the NLEX in 2025?

As of 2025, the toll rates for the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) for Class 1 vehicles (regular cars and SUVs) are P119, up from previous rates. For Class 2 vehicles (buses and small trucks), the toll is P299, and for Class 3 vehicles (large trucks), it is P418. These rates were approved by the Toll Regulatory Board and took effect on October 15, 2024, with additional regulations regarding the use of valid ETC devices starting March 15, 2025.

Does SLEX still accept cash in 2025?

Yes, as of 2025, the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) continues to accept cash for toll fees, although there is a strong push towards cashless transactions. While the implementation of mandatory cashless tollway transactions is set to be re-implemented starting March 15, 2025, non-regular users of tollways will still have access to dedicated cash lanes, allowing them to pay tolls in cash if they do not frequently use the expressway.

Can I use Skyway without RFID 2025?

As of 2025, vehicles without a valid RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag are still allowed entry onto the Skyway, but they will face certain penalties. Under the “No Valid ETC Device, No Entry” policy, motorists can enter the toll expressway without an RFID, but they will receive a sticker upon passage and incur fines for non-compliance starting March 15, 2025. This policy aims to encourage cashless transactions while still providing access to those who may not yet have an RFID installed.
