Star Cruises offers Manila-Laoag-Kaohshiung-Hong Kong Cruise
Filipinos can now enjoy a luxury cruise without having to go out of the country. Genting Hong Kong, the company that runs Star Cruises, is currently offering its Asian cruise to the Philippines and made Manila as its port of entry.
The said cruise started on March 19 and will last until May of this year. Each 5-night-6-day cruise will start from Manila and will travel to Laoag (in Ilocos Norte), Kaohshiung (in Taiwan), Hong Kong and back to Manila.
Local, as well as foreign, tourists taking the cruise will board the Starship Virgo, the top vessel of the Star Cruises fleet. According to Star Cruises president Ang Moo Lim, 2,000 Filipino passengers boarded the ship on the first day.
The Starship Virgo has 13 decks and offers various facilities such as Japanese, Indian, Chinese and Mediterranean restaurants, as well as a theater and casino for entertainment. It also has a variety of pools that passengers can enjoy while at sea.
The Department of Tourism wholeheartedly thanked Star Cruises for making Manila as one of its destinations among its Asian cruise offerings. Secretary Wanda Teo said their partnership with the cruise liner will open doors to other luxury cruises to make the Philippines as one of their chosen destinations for both local and foreign tourists.
Lim also said that they will promote flight cruise packages to other countries that will fly in more tourists to Manila which also brings economic benefits to the country’s airports, hotels and other tourism-related businesses.
Should you miss to take the cruise by the end of May, no need to worry. With the overwhelming response, Star Cruises has expressed their intention to offer another cruise package in the Philippines on December this year. It will offer different destinations such as Palawan, Kota Kinabalu, Okinawa And Ho Chi Minh City. This will give you enough time to save up and plan that upcoming Christmas holiday in a cruise ship.
Apart from being a luxurious cruise ship, Star Cruises is also proud of having on board hundreds of Filipino workers. Lim said Star Cruises was the first cruise line to have a majority of Filipino working on board 1993 and introduced many Filipino crew members to the United States after the acquisition of Norwegian Cruise Lines in 2000.
He added that not only is the company giving plenty of job opportunities to hundreds of thousands of Filipinos in all levels of the cruise industry. It also brought the quality of Filipino service to the world.
