Philippine Travel Mart 2020
Manila, Philippines — Although many travel exhibits have faced cancellations this year, Filipino explorers won’t have to worry about missing out on the year’s ultimate travel event.
The Philippine Travel Mart began as a simple trade and consumer exhibition 30 years ago, but it has now turned into the longest-running interactive showcase for Philippine tourist destinations. This annual event works with hundreds of exhibitors every year, ranging from provincial and regional travel agencies, airlines, resorts, and hotels.
The Philippine Tour Operators Association or PHILTOA has been an advocate for responsible tourism since 1986. A few years after its formation, the association made it their mission to develop a project that would curate and feature various destinations within the country and endorse sustainability and community engagement through travel products and packages. The Philippine Travel Mart was born.
In the past years, the Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) events were normally held during the beginning of September. However, this year, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the event organizers expected the situation to have been much more under control and arranged for it to happen this December. Despite the current statistics, the show will go on!
Exhibitors and attendees need not be too concerned about the safety hazards involved. The event coordinators have arranged for several COVID-19 safety protocols for the event’s duration, and strict compliance is expected from everyone. So you can have peace of mind when attending, proper face masks and adequate face shields are required in addition to observing the physical distancing of one to two meters at all times. Frequent hand washing or sanitizing is also highly encouraged.
The theme for this year is: Fostering Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism. As in past years, other than checking the many interesting exhibits, there are many activities and surprises to look forward to. PTM also showcases cultural events like the Philippine Tourism Quiz Bee Finals, Eco Chorale, Himig ng Kundiman, Cultural Dance, and the Patimpalak ng Kasuotang Pilipino. Not only is the expo perfect for finding new discoveries, but it’s also perfect for celebrating and learning about other Filipino cultures.
In addition to highlighting domestic tourism, PTM also opens up opportunities for Filipinos to visit international cities in the ASEAN region and countries like China, Japan, and Korea.
The Philippines and its many sights and attractions have long been one of the top destinations for foreign adventurers, but since inbound travelers are still restricted due to the pandemic, PHILTOA and PTM focus on domestic tourism. So, many attending guests are sure to strike some very exclusive deals and discounts!
This year’s exhibit will be held at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall. The event’s opening ceremony starts at 8:00 am on December 4, but the exhibition opens to the public starting at 10:00 am and closes at 7:00 pm for every day of the event. The final day to attend is on December 6, and the closing ceremony will be held at 6:00 pm.
