A collaboration between the provincial government of Bohol and AirAsia Philippines to promote the province as the number one island destination in the Philippines was recently launched. During the commemoration of the 118th birth anniversary of Pres. Carlos Polestico Garcia, also a Boholano, the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement for Bohol and AirAsia’s partnership was made the highlight of the event, which also marked the launch of the Visit Bohol 2015 tourism campaign.

A Provincial Development Council executive meeting approved the tourism action plan for the campaign, which is in support of the country’s program 2015 Visit Philippines Year.
The MOA was signed by AirAsia Philippines President and CEO Atty. Joy Cañeba and Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto. Department of Tourism (DOT) Assistant Secretary for International Promotions Benito Bengzon Jr. was also present during the event. The CPG Day celebrates the character and achievements of Pres. Garcia, the most illustrious son of the province, through the continuous pursuits for greater developments for Bohol.
Asst. Sec. Bengzon, as guest speaker, praised the Filipinos’ confidence and entrepreneurial talent, which was given emphasis by Pres. Garcia and shown in the daring tourism plans of the Boholanos.
According to Bengzon, “To many, President CPG was best known as a nationalist who believed in the capacity and entrepreneurial spirit of the Filipino.” He also referred to the late president as a great man who brought pride not only in his hometown, but also to the rest of the country. He also said that CPG Day is the Boholanos’ way of celebrating and remembering the triumphs and contributions that their noble fellowman has done in building the nation.

Earlier that day, Gov. Chatto, together with the Provincial Board headed by Vice Gov. Concepcion Lim, led the different activities planned for the CPG Day. The event started at 7:30AM with the flag raising, 21-gun salute and wreath-laying at the CPG Park at the New Capitol Site. At 8:30AM, a Eucharistic Celebration was held at the Bohol Cultural Center and was attended by national agencies, as well as provincial and city government employees.
As a tribute to the 4th President of the Republic of the Philippines, a commemorative program was held where benefactors of the CPG Scholarship Program were acknowledged.
A few outstanding Boholanos were made recipient of the Pres. CPG Awards. Engr. Jes Tirol was recognized for his contributions in Historical Research and Language Advocacy, Isabelito Tongco for Public Service, Rosalio Ortiz for Visual Arts and Catalino Salarda for Music Advocacy. Rian Marco Tirol also received recognition for winning the gold in the Batang Pinoy 2013 National Championship and being a Palarong Pambansa 2014 finalist.
In the province of Bohol, every 4th of November is a special non-working holiday as declared under the Republic Act No. 7448. This is to allow the Boholanos to commemorate the birth of their beloved fellowman, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia.
