Hotel Review: Marco Polo Hotel Davao
Images in this post are captured using Nokia Lumia 1020
Last week, I decided to visit Davao to have a staycation at the Marco Polo Hotel. Luckily, My visit was also perfect because I was able to attend the first-ever Mindanao Blog Awards. I purposely did not buy a baggage allowance when I bought my flight tickets to practice traveling light. Speaking of traveling light, Instead of bringing my heavy DSLR Camera, I just traveled with a new Nokia Lumia 1020 Camera Smart Phone.
Spacious Premier Room
Marco Polo Hotel is definitely the finest hotel that I have tried in Davao City so far. With its unique blend of Western comforts and Filipino hospitality, I’m sure you will not be disappointed.
I love this workstation.
Based on my staycation experience last week, I can say that the Marco Polo hotel has a fantastic location. I had an excellent premiere room with a view, and most importantly, I find their staff friendly and very helpful. I really had a stunning stay, and it felt like all the details were taken care of.
My Bed for two nights in Davao City
The Marco Polo Hotel has been in Davao long enough to have figured out just what the clients are going to want, and instead of being just a standard hotel, they’ve made the changes that needed to be made. I’m not often this impressed, but I have to say this is one of the best, most modern, and most satisfying hotels I’ve stayed at in a while.

Premier Room
First of all, the hotel is equipped with WiFi in every room. I had no trouble connecting, and it was fast enough. None of this dial-up speed crap I’ve seen lately in supposedly top tier hotels. All the electronics were new – fancy LCD TV, AC working perfectly and adjustable, the phone is an international direct dial, and the clock radio had an iPod dock.
Coffee Maker
Plus, the coffee machine they have is similar to the Nespresso Machines I normally see in most Singapore hotels. Modern down to every detail. To top it off, there were plenty of outlets in all the most practical places.
Coffee or Tea?
Other in-room amenities of the Premier Room include a beautiful modern bathroom with a shower and a deep bathtub for a luxurious soaking. The towels and robe were plush. And the desk meant that I could get some work done in comfort.

Other Amenities
Restaurant – Cafe Marco offers a delicious buffet breakfast that includes both local foods and international treats. I thought I’d end up going out for breakfast to see other local cafes, but instead, I just ate breakfast at the hotel each morning. It was that good.
Bread Station
Gym and Pool – No complaints here. Although I could not try the pool due to lack of time, I can see some group of friends enjoying the nice temperature, and it looks like they have a refreshing swim. I could visit their gym, and I can say that the machines are clean, and some were obviously brand new. I didn’t spend a ton of time in the gym, but it was never overly crowded when I went.
Breakfast Plate
Lobby and Help Desk – They have a great staff. Everyone treated my questions with respect and the attitude that they were there to make things easy for me. It was a bit of a stretch to find something to complain about, so instead, I just asked about amenities in the hotel and what I could do in the neighborhood. Helpful, patient answers were given each time.

Surroundings
The Marco Polo Hotel is very close to the Davao City center, not far from Central Bank. I could walk out the door and find great shopping very close by, as well as local attractions like museums. It’s not too far to resorts where you can go golfing or go for horseback rides or hikes if you like getting out of the city.
Yakult All you can Drink
Across the hotel on CM Recto Street is the famous Aldevinco Shopping Mall – Davao’s tourist favorite with its wide collection of exotic fabrics, antiques, and trinkets, reminiscent of Davao’s rich indigenous culture.
Marco Polo Davao is also close to the International Airport at a distance of just 12 km and is a 20-minute drive by car or by the hotel’s shuttle bus, which plies to and from the airport at a nominal fee.
