(Baguio City, Philippines) One of the best suggestions you’ll receive as a first-time tourist to Baguio City is to visit Cafe by the Ruins located at Shuntug Road. The “ruins” in its name is inspired from the previous city’s garden theatre’s ruins which stood where the Café is located today.

However, last year the historic Café caught fire (the actual scene was shown in social media). The fire authorities said that the cause of the fire maybe due to iron works or a cigarette butt coming from a construction in the vicinity which may have hit the cogon roof (native grass) of the establishment.

The iconic café made famous by their patrons when it opened in 1988 had to be closed for renovation. When the café closed for a year, loyal customers would frequent their second branch Café Dua in Upper Session Road. Now, after a year of anticipation, it’s finally open! Cafe by the Ruins has opened its door to the public again and it’s looking as beautiful as ever.

The opening was announced on a Facebook page and avid goers couldn’t be more thrilled. The famous café which is known for their fresh meals from the Baguio City Market maintained their signature façade. Their interiors though were revamped. Not to worry as it’s still Instagrammable!

You could expect good food again from the café too. Locals and tourist can now enjoy Iced Ruins Coffee which is made from their house blend and mixed with ice, whipped cream, and cinnamon powder or their classic Pinikpikan which is a traditional Cordillera soup made with etag (smoked salted pork) and served with mountain rice. There are desserts, chocolate treats, bread, spreads and a lot more. There are also meal options for vegetarians.
