Nothing Ear (1) True Wireless Earbuds Review

The Ear (1) Wireless Earbuds are Nothing’s first earbud product, a company created by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. The Nothing Ear 1 was considered to be one of the most hyped products in a while, with Carl Pei teasing technophiles for months before the product launched last July 27, 2021. The company’s mission was “to remove barriers between people and technology.”

Ear 1 Design

In a world where everyone wants the crisp white AirPods Pro or the bright red Studio Buds, the transparent design of Ear (1) is a breath of fresh air. The internal components of the earbuds are intricately placed well, glued, and all. Each earbud has a red and white dot to distinguish between left and right. The geometric stems of the earbuds make them easy to grip. The clamshell-style case has magnets on each corner where the earbuds fit in, with red and white dots as well. The case also has a round dent that holds each earbud in place.

Ear 1 Sound Quality

Ear (1) has Active Noise Cancellation and a microphone on the stems of the earbuds, which listens to external noise to effectively cancel the noise around the user. This sound isolation also means that the earbuds do not leak sound. Another feature of the earbuds is the Transparency Mode which intensifies the external noise.

Battery Life

The earbuds can be used for 4 hours of music replays with Active Noise Cancellation enabled and almost 6 hours with Active Noise Cancellation disabled. Using the case, the earbuds can last for 24 hours with Active Noise Cancellation enabled and 34 hours with Active Noise Cancellation disabled.

Charging Time

Charging the earbuds for a short amount of time, maybe for 10 minutes, can last the earbuds for 6-8 hours, depending on the volume and whether Active Noise Cancellation is enabled or not. The Ear (1) case has an LED light indicator that tells whether it is charging or not. To charge wirelessly, you need to use a QI-compatible charger. Otherwise, use the USB-C cable that comes with the package.

Nothing Ear (1) Mobile App

Nothing Ear (1) has a mobile app that users can download on Android and iOS. This helps in configuring features and updating the earbuds. The app supports Light and Dark modes and has a Find My Earbud feature, which plays a shrilling sound from the earbud the user is looking for.
